Hello Everyone,

Thank you all for your congratulations, support and general enthusiasm, very much appreciated.

I would like to thank Fred Buyle, Natalie Avseenko and Patrick Schnorf for their support and encouragement for this dive. Fred, thanks for swimming down with that massive camera taking the photos.

In answer to Andy’s question…nope, was not wearing the fluid goggles as I have not had time to get used to them and I wanted a larger field of vision. I was wearing a mask…and no I cannot equalize hands free so I was taking every second stroke with one arm so that I could equalize until I hit the sink faze.

I am not quite sure what I can tell you about the dive. I think you would get a better perspective by asking Fred or Natalie as they saw me disappear into the Arch and by the sounds of it were quite shaken by the whole thing and very happy to see me pop up on the other side. For me, I focused on my breath up, packing and rolled over and descended. Roughly 15 seconds into the sink faze I looked up and could see the beginning of the arch and started to direct my freefall towards the opening. Once inside, I marvelled – for a split second – at how big the Arch is, really quite a cool thing to swim through.(Apparently there was a school of 12 dog tooth tuna in the arch but I did not see them) I swam trying to avoid sinking any further and once I saw the roof of the arch sloping upwards I started to roll over so as to face it for the return to the surface. I swam about 1.5m off the reef, admiring the coral and the fish as I swam by…most of the fish were a little freaked out by my unexpected arrival. I surfaced, started to breath and was happy to be done…arms and legs quite tired from the effort but I felt that it was a great dive.

I had wanted to do this dive since the Triple Depth last year but unfortunately things always seemed to get in the way. This trip was a break from training in the pool more than anything and since I was having ongoing problems with an infected tooth I was not even sure to do anything more than enjoy the fish on the reef. Now I am happy to have completed it and will get back to focusing on the pool.
