I've seen that picture before and I don't believe it was a shark. If I recall correctly it was some type of dolphin or porpoise. Nevertheless, If I would have been that surfer and did not know for sure, I would have been back on shore faster than you can say "holy shit" and would have proceeded to run to the nearest bathroom for some toilet paper or the like:D

Perhaps a dolphin, perhaps not.. in water that colour and seeing it that close for a second or less time... would most likely give him plenty of reason to call it a day....:)

it is definetly some sort of mammal, just look at the tail, its flat (like a whale's or dolphin's) if it was a shark the tail would be vertical, like most fish

Do you think the surfer took the time to notice that????

What if the wave had distorted the image???

I personally wouldn't have hung around to find out.

ok, so hows about this fairly popular piccy?

That's pretty funny. Notice in the second picture in the url; the surfer is nowhere in sight. :D

Well it is safe to say that the dolphin won the surf comp.

The surfer beat the world record butterfly over 100 meters.

And the bloke with the G.W. is a nutter!

the pointy stick realy will not be that much help for the diver but the shark can use it as a tooth pick afterrofl rofl rofl

Is that second picture just above one of those guys who grab GW's snouts as they come out of the water? I saw a documentery with someone doing that, the GW's seem to like it and keep comming back for more, Peter Benchley was involved in it (who else!!) . Personally I'd be on the other side of the boat! :D Same documentery had a camera stuck to a turtle shaped board being towed behind the boat looking down into the gloom, then GW appears coming upwards like a ballistic missile!! Totally awsome!!

Hiya Alison

first picture is the ad used for the Shark Shield. Fake

second picture is of Andre Hartman, South African Spearo, who now runs a GW seeing/cage diving operation in Gansbaai. Same guy in the picture i posted earlier. TRUE PICTURES

third one............:D :D

All wicked pictures non-the-less!!!

miles

Ive had a look at Andre's web site, cant decide if the man is brilliant or completely barkin!! Those are big big fish he's swimming with :waterwork

Scary part is that he is a nationally selected spearo who used to spearfish THAT SAME area before becoming a cage diving operator. I've spoken to him and his mates about spearing in Shark Alley, as its called. Reckons that area is so rich is sea life that they aren't put off by such a little thing like GW's!!!!!!! Insane!!!!!

Heres an old picture of him with a South African record White Steenbras shot in 1980. Weighed in at 21kg's. Record still stands today!!
