...that I look forward to and actively seek out silent, isolated, deep, cold, dark, wet and pressure laden refuges and deprive myself of the most critical life-sustaining substance possible?

How is I that I crave these environments?

Why is life on O2-rich, lush land with 98% of my fellow humans so much more unbearable that that which I yearn for?

Are freedivers broken people, or is it truly that fantastic down there??

Not sure it makes sense logically....

Eagerly anticipating some diaphragm-inverting pressure this eve,

Yes, I love it. The sea is everything. It covers seven-tenths of the terrestrial globe.
Its breath is pure and healthy. It is an immense desert where man is never alone for he feels life, quivering around him on every side.* There is supreme tranquility. The sea does not belong to despots. On its surface iniquitous rights can still be exercised, men can fight there, devour each other there, and transport all terrestrial horrors there. But at thirty feet below its level their power ceases,* their influence dies out, their might disappears.
Ah, sir, live in the bosom of the waters! There alone is independence.
There I recognise no masters! There I am free.

Apneaddict, my life is so much better and full of joy when i get the chance to disapear inside the ocean to the cold, dark, isolated deep water. i have a blink of eternity, empowerment of life.
This crave is the best crave ever i could dream of.
this are moments i will never forget in my life...

I too love it down there. It really does feel like home. Being in Tangaroa/Neptune/Poseidon's embrace is something else. It feels like a better place and when I'm there I forget about the crappy day I may have had, forget about what is happening on land, about deadlines and demands and all that stuff. Time changes. I love everything about it - the quiet, the feel, the abundance of life. What a wonderful world it is down there, and to be able to go there is a joy. Its like you become a part of it.

And I don't think that wanting to spend time there means your life is bad /miserable!!! Quite the opposite!!!
