Hi Maddprops, good to hear you already established good relations, a little word of warning, use the BO word as little as possible, rather use faint, it's about psycho linguistics, how words feel.
On the 25m exercise, when I say every minute start, means that you use 1 minute for swimming, resurfacing, recovery, before your next lane.
For example Swimming no fins, I would do 25m in 23 seconds, leaving me 37 seconds to surface and start my next lane.
Note your slower swimming will decrease your rest time, Efficiency is the key. Do not pack, breath from the diaphragm, swim streamlined and efficient. For me noting when it get hard and then counting the remaining strokes, helps me when it gets hard-er the next lane to keep going thinking 'Ok now it's hard, you can do 5 more strokes'.
It's a great way to train a lot of things and have a good workout in small time.
Off cause you can change the schedule to your personal liking, goals and skill level.
In France they started doing 16x50m in competitions, later picked up in Germany. Using monofins some people like Peter Pedersen have managed incredible times, like 12'29" for swimming 16x50m (800m) under water. (Do the calculation to see how fast that is per lane!) Personally I've also gone pretty fast, and discovered that the CO2 build up does pose a big mental challenge, after 8 lanes my mind really went "I don't wanna do this, it's too much" but with a few breaths extra I continued thanks to an understanding good coach, who used the remaining 8 lanes to have me swim even faster than first 'set' by sneakingly decreasing my 'rest' times.
A better example would be I coaching my buddy using bi-fins. Thanks to repetition and little 'one direction at the time' advice on technique he took down his 50m swimming time 10 (!) seconds, from ~ 48 to ~ 38s, with still expending the same energy effort, causing his 2' schedule to become really easy.
After this, you'll have a nice work out feeling, drink, do some stretching or active recovery, and rest for 10 min, and do another set.
Repetitive 50m's may be a little to much at your current level, so that's why I noted 25m to be safe not to cause harm to you, but at the same time a nice new training challenge.
Let us know how it went!
