Mat,
You should definitely be doing dry statics, and tables are great way to improve too. Many people say they have improved their dynamic with dynamic walking. I find my best results come with doing both dry statics and dynamic walking 4 to 5 times a week although many people do them everyday. I also lift weights (some say that is a no-no) and run a little so I have to be careful to not overtrain.

Hello Mat

Yesterday I did more than 3 hours of statics in the morning. Each static lasted between 3min and 3min30 with 1min of rest. As a result, I was yawning like crazy for the rest of the day, I felt like my teacher at school was singing some lullaby to me. It was funny. It stopped when I went to sleep in the night.

Lots of dry statics are good for you, but you must eat well and probably take some anti-oxidant supplements.
In the past I've done 5 a day with a max attempt every 2 days or so. Some guys have done more, with no adverse affects (with supplements).

Mat,
I think just about every good freediver does some dry land exercises to improve their water performance, even if they have easy access to the water. There are also some good freedivers who like you don’t make it to the water that often, but have learned to duplicate the physical things they use in the water on dry land well so when they do get there they are ready.

Erik,

In the words (and tone ) of a 2-year-old.....'why'?

- lots of dry statics good for you?
- must eat well (other reasons besides general health)?
- probably take anti-oxidants?

Hi Ted,
Statics are good for you: 1, they temporarily increase the hemoglobin in your blood. 2, there is evidence that micro-capillaries grow under enough low 02 conditions (permanent).
Eating well and the supplements are both to counter the large amount of free radicals that are created during statics, plus the right materials are available to support extra hemoglobin creation.

Cheers,
Erik Y.
