hi all, I am new to spear fishing and trying to get my weight belt correct, I am 60 kg with 5mm suit and in 0-5 mtr depths, I have 8 kg on and still feels not enough, just been to buy another 5 kg to try, is this normal.

The bodys bouyancy is very individual. Two persons weighing the exact same can need a totally different weigh load.

On the other hand, if you want to be neutral in boyancy in 0-5mtrs depth you probably need a bit more weight since the air in your lungs is pretty much uncompressed at those depths.

Best is to buy or borrow a few weights and measure how much you need to be neutral at your desired depth.

If you are spearing in 5 meters, then you want enough lead to be neutral or a tiny bit negative (sinking at that depth). Most people are diving a good bit deeper than that, so they will often weight themselves to be neutral at around 10 meters. There is much less suit compression and chest compression at 3 meters compared to 10 meters.

Wear the absolute minimum amount of weight that makes you comfortable at your hunting depth. It is important to be able to rest comfortably on the surface. 13 kg is probably much more lead than you will need, in fact I am surprised that 8 kg is not enough.
