As I'm stuck in the country and rarely get a chance to hit the water, I've started doing CO2 / O2 tables to try and improve my max breath hold.

I've only just started and my max hold is only about 1:40 secs.

Is it ok for me to do them every day? (i.e. 1 x CO2 and 1 x O2 per day)

I've read that some people say to do them twice a week but really, am I going to do myself harm by doing them every day?

You wont be over doing it by doing tables everyday mate it is fine. I'm not a huge lover of tables but i have just started using them myself and yes i see some improvments.

I train mainly in static and dynamic so if you want to know anymore i'm sure i can help as will the DB gang...

All the best

Thanks buddy :)

My aim is to improve my underwater times for Spearfishing but I'm not adverse to giving the whole freediving thing a go! Being stuck in the country is a bit annoying but I try to get out to sea a few times a year!

I've just started on the tables after downloading the 'Breath Hold' app for my iPhone. I can just sit in the office and do it when I've got a spare 20 mins!

Can I ask, what other things you can do to improve your breath-holding?

I'm trying to find a pool where I can use fins but so far, no luck! Fortunately, I think I might be able to get someone with a big private pool to let me in a couple of mornings a week!

I'm just going to check your blog out! :)

Hey Debrovnik, may I ask where you found those tables as I am in the same situation as you being land-locked :p

Reagrds to using your fins in a pool: I phoned up the secretary of the towns dive club who practice in the local 25m pool and just asked if there was room for me to do a few lengths. Luckily for me they also make room for dive members who just want to do a few lengths and I was welcome to swim in that area of the pool. Wednesday was my first go but I feel it definately helps being in the water.

Best of luck on getting 2 minutes!

Sorry, the search engine I use has crashed and burned which was the reason I could not find them myself.

Thanks Trux

Hi Dafydd, I actually downloaded the 'Breath Hold' application for my iPhone - seems to work really nicely, it cost £1.79 which isn't too bad!

Great idea about calling up dive clubs, will do that! :)

Make sure to try some max. attempts 1-2 times a week. That's what actually gave me the biggest results. Good luck

Debrovnek,
a simple exercise that will help is to do breathholds while walking. You can do full lung or empty, although the full lung are much better for starting out. Just find a grassy area and walk while holding your breath. You can get a bunch more complicated, but the simple start should help a lot.

Just make sure you do it in an area that you wouldn't mind falling face-first onto, lol. Never had a problem myself, but I know a few people that have passed out on some uncomfortable spots, like asphalt. :blackeye

2 Atlantis Fire: Hehe, that had to hurt. :)

I also started to use apnea walking. I started with easy 30s hold/30s breath, then I will make longer holds. It has been recommended by my friend, he has recently done 5 mins dry static. I am going to try the 30s rule, if I exceed 30s, I will have shorter time for breathing till reaching another 30s (1 min), after that again 30s hold. If I do 1 minute, I have again 30s for breathing.

Hm... He said it is mainly thanks to apnea walking so I am giving it a try. I hate static apnea and my PB is 2:30 in water, have done 3:15 dry in the past... I hope I will improve that soon.

These tables are BRILLIANT! I'm up to about 3 minutes now! :)

I'm going to definately start the walking breath holds.. sounds like a great idea!
