I like dolphin kicks when using my fins, for it's more efficient and saves energy. But it's hard to use a monofin for me because I find it requires more power. Are there any tips for getting used to a monofin?

It depends on the monofin.
I dolphinkick without fins, with bifins, and all sorts of monofins and so far, bifins are my favourite,
because most monofins are so big and heavy that they put a lot of strain on my ankles and feet and require more strength as you said.
I'm also doing a lot of moves underwater other than swimming straight, so smaller, lightweight fins (or no fins) feel better.

However, if you find a monofin that is right for you in fit and flexibility, the speed you get out of it can be superior to anything else.
Try on different fins in a shop and see which fits best. Also, choose a blade which is soft or medium, not hard.

I looked for years for a mono that could replace bifins. Had a hard time for the reasons above plus more. The monoflap came close, very easy to push, but nothing really did the trick until I tried a Dol-fin. Its very small blade size gets around the problems above and most others. It has become my fin of choice.

In terms of getting used to freediving with a traditonal mono, get a small, soft one and use it a lot. Practice helps.
