Hi there:

Few weeks ago I posted this same question. Can anyone tell some techniques for attracting fish with a flasher. I am spearfishing in tropical waters. Target fish are: amberjack, wahoo, jacks, mackarell, rooster fish... etc.

Another doubt, does anyone have a good way of cooking milk fish, everybody around here tells me they are no good eating. I enjoy hunting for them because they are very difficult to approach plus they run like hell... !!

Thank you for any suggestions...

Put your flashers at a depth you can comfortably dive too, and jig it up and down. Fish will come in to have a look.

RobAllen makes some top flashers, and its their design that I.. ahh.. emulate when making my own..;)

Hey shadow, did you first dive your desired depth and your buddy or tides jig the thing up-down so you will be there ready when the fish come. Or you first wait the fish to come then dive to shoot?

Hello Murat,

although I am not a specialist of hunting pelagics with flasher, there are a few technics available:

1/ at the water surface, you can wait for the fish swimming around your flasher, and dive when you see it

2/ idem 1/ but drawing the flasher towards during diving

3/ or you can wait at the desired depth (aspetto in italian, agachon in french, i don't know in english sorry!). Your weight must be perfectly suited to the desired depth. Or you can use a floatline attached to your weight belt, to give you the perfect wait depth.

The third technic, with a personal floatline, is the one I tried successfully on small tuna in mediterranean sea.

Kingfish, Dolphinfish and Blue Morwong are the main target when using a flasher (well around here anyway). All those species will come to the flasher, in some cases chewing on them. Once they arrive I dive on an intercepting line and let them swim past me on the way to the flasher.
