Just came in after checking on some stuff outside while getting pellted by debris and rain at 40 mph gust.
I have been inside all day and the only thing that's keeping me sane is thinking about how much more fish there will be when this storms over:)

AJ out.

Why is that? any reasonable explenation?

DId you wear your dive mask to withstand the pellets? could'nt imagine opening my eyes otherwise.
Keep safe.

By the way, I would've thought that the strongest nation in the world (no offence to Chaina;)) would've figured what to do by now to prevent storms that cost lives and billions of dollars per year...
Like setting a few 'fuel-air' bombs in the eye of the storm while it's still above the ocean or dragging some iceberg from antarcitca and cooling the water in the western shore of africa which I think is the first link in the hurricane formation chain.
I guess the unexpected results for world wide weather is what's preventing that....
Any ideas anyone?

The water gets all churned up and the thermocline moves further
offshore, also the fish seem to move around more trying to find calmer waters.Visibility suffers the first few days after but the spearing is better.

The fish can really move given the right conditions. Some years ago, a hurricane called Elena stalled for about a week in a part of the Gulf of Mexico known for having a large grouper population. Immediately afterward huge numbers of grouper started showing up 100 to 200 miles away, in shallow water, along the beach and in bays where they normally are rare. The grouper didn't like the turbulance from the storm, got up and left. It will be interesting to see what Francis has done.

Connor! That's what I experianced when I lived on the gulf.I've seen huge grouper in less than fifty feet of water.I'm going to pensacola
sometime in the next two weeks depending on what Ivan does.

is there any news on Ivan? here in Miami we basically had just another tropical storm. i guess this time we were lucky...
how did you guys further up north do?

We were fine in Sarasota, windy (20--50 knots) and good, if crazy, surf yesterday. I heard from Michael in Palm Beach. He is still out of power, but no significant damage.

Ivan, who knows, other than he's already blown me out of another Bahamas trip. There's another one developing behind him. I'm not putting the shutters away yet.

Right on ! I have a small box like a dog house that I put my generator in.The day after frances passed I started to put it up
then I came to my senses. My neighbors are finally getting there
boards down from the attic to cover there windows with .I didn't
have any damage just a few branches here and there and alot of leaves others had fallen trees and tore off shingles. All in all we got pretty lucky, hope this is as bad as it's gonna get.

later fellas

Look up the NIAC - NASA Institute for Advanced Concepts (I think). They have all these crazy experimental projects. One is the space elevator. Yes, an elevator to space. Another one is a hypothetical way to stop (or more accurately, redirect) hurricanes. The idea involves using microwave satellites to heat up an area in the middle of the ocean a few degrees which will somehow attract the fledgling hurricane out there. I was reading one article about it, and the guy said his major concern was not technological, but political. What if we redirected a hurricane away from us and it ended up going to another country instead?

Anyway, I thought that was interesting. But I haven't heard of any plans to BOMB the hurricanes. :)

Bomb the hurricanes!
Nuke the whales!
Nuke the arabs and take their oil!
Nuke the indians and take their casinos!

EDIT: To explain the above, for any who are easily offended. :) It's an obscure Simpsons reference. My favorite Simpsons trivia question is: what is written on the posters in Nelson's room? Well, those are the three "nuke" lines. For some reason when I saw DT in this thread talking about "bombing hurricanes", the wording struck me as equally absurd (although the idea is a good one), and reminded me of Nelson's posters. I wanted to see if anyone else would get the reference. Probably not. :) But hopefully now no one will get offended.

I'm greatly honoured If any of my ideas evoked the words of the wise from your memory!

But for simpsons trivia that was too much for me.
I do remember one episode when they showed Nelson's room (well, house), I think it was when Lisa visited him.

Yup, that's the episode! You can only see the posters if you pause the video though. :) (No, I don't pause every episode searching for these things, I just happened to on this one).

To whoever asked me in a karma note - I don't have the video or a screen cap. This was years ago I had taped it and when I was watching the tape I saw the screen scroll past the posters I figured I'd rewind and pause to read them. There is stuff like this in every episode but I rarely take the time to look for it. The only other one I can think of is when Bart was buying a video game... if you paused it you could read the hilarious titles of several other games on the shelf.

There is a website (snpp.com) that archives all sorts of ridiculous info like this. For every episode you can read not only the entire transcript, but also "fun facts" (like the one I mentioned above) and explanations of every obscure reference in the episode... often the people writing the capsules reach VERY far in trying to turn everything in the damn episode into something symbolic. It's still kind of fun, if not overwhelming, to read.

Funny how much positive karma this post brought me, after a friend warned me it would offend somebody. :D But then again, I guess it still is good I added the explanation to my remarks...

Futurama (also by Matt Groening) is another good one for obscure references and a little less restrained than The Simpsons. My kids watch it, but seldom get the more subtle jokes.

They're huge fans of most of the Adult Swim shows -- My idea of quality time w/ the kids is watching Family Guy w/ them (a little hit or miss, but when it's good, it's really good). Harvey Birdman and Sealab 2021 are two other favorites. Luckily, most of the jokes fly right over their cute little fuzzy heads.

I agree with you regarding futurama.
Also has more sci-fi in it. Which is always good. (oops, exposed some nerdiness there. :))

Petty they stoped doing futurama for some reason... :waterwork

Might check those sealab and birdman since it's posted in the same post as simpsons/futurama...

If your kids are realy short of years, I hope you don't let them watch sourhpark. :D
