Apart from incidents of blackout due to low CO2 levels, is hyperventilation dangerous? Does it have any long term... or short term negative health effects? Everything I have read on the subject is either overly complicated or only mentioned the dangers of blackout.

Well, It is said by yogis that to restore the blood normal levels of CO2 and O2, after Kapalaphati (fire breathing) or Bhastrika (full lung rapid ventilation) you must hold your breath for a while. No other facts, short term, long term about this I know. Yogis says ir rejuvenate the blood, brain, tissues, even cells, but no data here :)
