i would just like to say i don't do any pushing of the body anymore. i had my first and only blackout last night. don't push into anything. when your body tells you to breathe do it! i was in the water and it scared me. while i was out i had a short nightmare that bono from U2 shot himself in the head.

Good to hear you're still around! Be sure to buy your saviour(s) a beer or two!

In my BO dream(s) I was still doing fine and finishing the dive beautifully ;)

Actually many have pleasant dreams even when doing a BO.

Indeed we try to avoid BO's, for it puts our selves, our friends and pool staff into stress.
There is no benefit of doing a BO, other than clearing up a possible mystery and fear of having one, knowing where your limit is, and how it is to cross it.
Having had your first one, my advice is to go slow next time, just dive within the easy range. Feel and enjoy the water, and try to have your mind in the feeling state of mind.
Forgo for a time the quest for numbers, and focus on enjoying relaxation and good feelings.

Oh and to prevent future ones keep in mind to observe your body's state before you dive. Hydration and tiredness for instance affect your buffers and 'come up alarm clock'.

And it's not to big of a deal to have a BO, the key is to analyse and learn from it.

Love, courage and water,

Kars

Hi Waxlips.
I was just talking with one of the lifeguards at our pool. Some of the coast guard guys have had blackouts recently and we were discussing protocols that the pool should put in place.

I agree with you. My training lately has been based on relaxing and perfecting technique. I do sprints with short intervals - which are quite tiring - but I do not push the apnea at all. Now I always come away from my pool sessions with more energy than I started.

I hope you will continue to focus on having fun and relaxing - I think this is the best way to improve while benefiting all of yourself and keeping Bono safe and happy :)

Good Luck!

Hi Waxlips.

There is so many variables and things that change and things you should know the best thing to do is find a really good freediver in your area and only train for anything other than fun with someone who can keep you safe.

OMG thats terrible...did bono recover??

Btw, if you not trying to set a world record i would not push yourself ;)

Or, you could do more long dives to learn when you need to come up (pre-BO) - with appropriate safety of course.

I'm assuming it was a deep dive rather than the pool as I normally associated dreams with shallow water BO as opposed to hypoxic BO, say in the pool, where you would suffer amnesia and generally don't remember the last bit of the dive until you come around.

Depth can be a little harder to control, but build up slowly, listen to your body and trust yourself and your buddies.

One BO is not a reason to quit!

Nightmare? rofl (I hate bono)

On a serious note, glad you're OK. SWBO is definitely a concern for me and I hope it never happens.

Did you have a buddy to pull you up?
