I should have realised that about the five symmetrical patterns of a seaurchin as often you find small white skeletons of them on the beach and they have those patterns imprinted on them.
Sea Urchins are basically starfish that have all 5 arms folded upwards and conjoined. And bigger spikes ofcourse. :)

SO ARE ALL URCHINS EDIBLE? ie these black ones we have in the states?
how do you prepare them, I love to try new things!

I have seen people eat sea urchins raw just crack em open suck out the good stuff, not for me though a bit to much like drinking snot.
Im suppose you have to get a taste for them like oysters.
Maybe you should start a thread in the cooking section could be interesting to see what people come up with

oh yes... we used to eat them off the rocks when i lived in Spain... they are supposed to be aphrodisiacal... ermmm never notice :duh

they don't taste that great and the flesh was orange with bits in,... not so appealing.
