Whats up guys. For a while I been so congested and my down time has been so shitty compared to before. Like maybe 3 weeks it was bad and it was so depressing. But this Friday I went for a dive and my down time was so good. Everything was good. My head didnt hurt while descending, my mask didnt squeeze the Sh*t out of my face, sh*t I didnt even have to equalize because I didnt feel the need to. It felt that good. Then while at the bottom I noticed that I was under for longer then usual and I felt like all the hours were finally paying off. Anyways when I got out of the water I felt fine. A little tired and delirious like I usually do but I was fine. The next morning I went to blow my nose and I felt a lot of pain out of my left ear. Then a few hours later the pain was excruciating. Im a man that can handle pain but I was crying like a little bitch that morning. I drank some beers hoping it would numb the pain, watched some ufc and by the end of Saturday night the pain wasnt as bad but it traveled to my right ear. Now both ears are in pain. I cant really hear that good. I always have random sharp needle like pains in my ears. I feel like theres pressure trying to be released every time I burp(which is often) to the point im scared to burp. My left ear been draining fluid when I sleep. At night I have cold sweats and feel like I have a fever. I went to the emergency room and the guy seemed clueless. He looked in my ear and said uhhh I think you ruptured a ear drum. I asked why does he think it traveled to my right ear and he said uhhhhh I dont know. So he prescribed me some antibiotics and ear drops and said the ear doctor will call me in a day or two. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem? Im getting worried. I freakin love diving and the thought of not being able to is killing me. Any advice? Thanx

You probaly rupture a eardrum and also got a infection. I recognize the fever, pains and this is something that i have recovered from after 4-7 days with antibiotics and eardrops and it was because of sinus infection. If you actually damaged a eardrum it will take longer to heal.

Do you have any throat pains?

I think it's better to make sure you ALWAYS equalize even if you feel like you dont really need to do it. otherwise it might come back and hit you the day after.

edit; And if the doctors dont seem to know what is going on, maybe you should go to someone who specializes in this stuff.

If your eardrum ruptured then liquids like blood, puss and fluid from your sinuses will drain out. Usually the pain subsides when it ruptures from an infection (at least with me it has) and then you can't dive for a while. Like Okis said always equalize and try to keep your sinuses open if you plan to dive.

Hope it heals up quickly.

No throat pains but the first day my whole side of my face and even my teeth hurt. And ya I have an appointment with an ear specialist on monday(wish it was sooner) and I wish I knew that I had to equalize everytime. I felt like I hold my breath longer when I dont equalize but I definetly will from now on. Thanx

No blood from the ear. The fluid was kind of clear like and when it dried up it was green. Then pain is not as bad today. Slowly going away but I still have random sharp piercing pain from both sides. Didnt have fevers last night and could actually sleep on my sides( I been sleeping on my back to prevent pain in my ears). So Im kind of happy with that. Still deaf in both ears tho lol. The Plus side is I dont have to listen to my girl talk now lol. But man I really hope I can shake this, I really want to get back in the water. Thanx for your time, I appreciate it.

If your eardrum has completely ruptured you will be able to blow air out of it when excess mucus etc. is gone. Hopefully it hasn't ripped completely and it will heal relatively quickly. Try to use a nasal spray and/or saline solution to wash out all the gunk that is in there.

Ya I dont think its completely ruptured. If I gently equalize I feel like this bubbly feeling in my left ear and feel nothing in my right. So far im advised to take antibiotics and ear drops to the left ear and check up on moday. Im getting depressed bro lol. I cant swim, dive, surf, box lol. Guess I could fish. Man this sucks

Ment to update sooner but I went to the docs a few weeks ago and it turns out I didnt rupture my eardrum. They said if i were to rupture it from diving I would have felt it right away. Turns out I had a minor sinus infection(which I knew already) and when I blew my nose it aggravated like the ear canal and it swell up and trapped water in there. So the put me on prednisone which made me feel like shit, depressed and angry all the time. I can finally hear and im just waiting to go back for the check up to dive again. Oh ya the ear specialist said if you blow your nose you gotta leave your mouth open to prevent what happened to me

Thanks for the update, that's something new to me, good to know. As for the tablets, I know how you feel............. like sh#t, depressed and angry all the time............. i'm married! :D
