Question I want to learn how to free diving could I learn off youtube

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
A lot of different things can be learnt from you tube, however freediving is an activity which carries many real dangers, you can literally die if you don't understand the dangers and the principles behind it. In my opinion you would be better off using this forum to do your research along with other platforms and ideally find someone who knows what they're doing to teach you. Whatever you do, don't just grab a pair of fins and try to go as deep as you can, you may feel really good one minute and then you can be dead the next. Freediving is the old saying, fools rush in where angels fear to tread. Take it slowly, really slowly and never be tempted to bring ego into it, that ends in tears. Good luck and look at everything on this forum, it's all here and all invaluable.

Sure you can, as long as you combine practical diving experience with the video. However, its not a great idea. Pinneped is right and I'd make a very strong recommendation to take a course before you get very far into it. So, find a buddy or a spotter and get wet. If it looks like you are hooked, take a course.

Besides safety.. A good freedive intructor will watch you, see how you move in water and give you useful hints to improve your technique (which makes your dives definitely more enjoyable). They can take videos of your dives, which gives a very realistic idea about your skills. All things you can't learn from youtube or online in general...

It is great to hear you want to learn about freediving and there are a lot of useful channels out there. However nothing will compare to an instructor lead course. Ted Hardy has a great free freediving safety course you can find here https://immersionfreediving.teachable.com/p/freedivingsafety

We also have free instructor lead theory sessions with time to practice some breathing techniques. You can sign up on our website https://ricafreedivers.com/
