Impetus Brevis V2 75cm Demo

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
This is how it was before. Only polyurethane varnish coats without epoxy resin coats, and smoothed out after each layer dried. Smooth as a babies bottom.

Fingers crossed

Lots of colour has been lost btw. Varnish darkened it up a bit and the lighting was poor. This pic shows the colour a bit more.

I take back my original comment... it looks even better than just plain wood now that its finished... cracking job.
Is that the cut down Meandros S trigger mech... doesn't actually look like it?

Haha thanks mate.

No this is the Meandros Calibra. The Meandros Short will be used on another project ill be stsrting soon.

The Impetus brand is born... is spearfishing popular in Malta... being a mediterranean island I would've assumed so? That would be a nice job... making spearguns for the rest of your working days...

Yes its very popular here and the hobby has skyrocketed in the past 2 years. Problem os yhat fish population is decreasing by the day, sometimes (mostly) the seabed looks like a swimming pool literally...

Id love to make and sell guns but unfortunately people dont want to buy expensive guns, and just to make the gun i did it cost quite a bit... people here mostly prefer just something that shoots averagely and nothing more

Common knowledge I suppose regarding the Med being commercially overfished... and according to the marine scientists I share an office with... the Med will be the first place where completely no-take conservation zones will/are to be implemented under EU fisheries law... led by the German and Dutch euro MP's apparently? Most european spearo's seem to think sticking their heads in the sand is the smart option... but as we all know spearfishing is by far the most eco-friendly, selective fishing in existence and we should all be shouting that loud and clear! Why should we be subject to blanket sanctions due to commercial exploitation? Rant over!

Your hand built guns look good enough to export around the world to me though so perhaps you should be shouting that loud and clear... with your own web site... you, your guns and videos certainly inspired me! People will always part with their cash when they know they're getting quality...

It would be very cool to see some more of your slo-motion video when testing the Impetus Brevis Camo 75... again... I like the double pulley rig by the way... less flapping rubber and it also looks easier to load with the double pull? The shoulder width of the butt of the gun also looks more comfortable... plenty of upgrades! What a weapon!

Once the weather calms down ill be sure to make some videos. I might try my luck on Sunday but Im pretty sure visibility will be shite...

what do you mean by double pull?

what do you mean by double pull?

Most roller guns only have 1 loop of rope to load and pull the wishbone into place... your double loop makes it look easier/conventional to load... not having much experience with wood/roller guns I'm still at the stage of being impressed at all the different possibilities regarding rigging! This is what I'm really trying to recreate...
Hurricane1.jpg

2 Sided Gun animatios sml.jpg
but a bit more simple/straight-forward rigging... and without the 60's pump action thanks... such as a single loop (16-17-18mm) band with working stretch to around 125%... I'll cut my new 90cm Rob Allen rail barrel down to 2 barrels around 35cm/45cm... hoping to get the gun's overall length down to around 50-60cm in total, whilst also considering any loss of accuracy... handle being 25cm long... anything more than around half a meter will defeat the object of making a quick fire, maneuverable gun for hunting in the gloom and the foam. I use a little Moichano and a Mares mini sten at the moment and something in between both their lengths is exactly what I'm after. Having used one of these (The Hurricane above) when I was 13 I'll never forget how efficient it was at catching mackerel... amazing gun and caught 2 mackerel in 1 shot on more than a few occasions... you don't forget guns that feed you like that to easily! If I have/need to use thicker bands for power then I'll also be needing a double pull... I had my Hurricane for the summer of 1976 and lost it in deep water (sank like a weight belt) cos my lanyard was tied only the way a 13 year old could tie it... broke my heart!

I've had a bash at a custom roller muzzle too using the Meandros rollers measurements... any thoughts? Are they what you used on the Brevis... I call it the Cobra Muzzle;)

Haha no I havent used Meandros roller yet. Mine are a lot thinner in profile than the normal rollergun.

I noticed that... presumably so that you could use cord rather than the rubber thru the rollers... makes sense... is that why you call it inverted... I don't quite grasp that concept?

Rollers start from under the gun to the notch of the spear near the trigger. When shot, the bands movement is from the rear side to the muzzle.

The system i use the bands are only at the bottom of the gun, and when shooting the bands movement is from the muzzle to the rear of the gun.

There are other systems of invert too. Quite a lot of choice these days

I get it now... thanks. The action 'pulls' the spear out rather than the bands using just the tip of the gun as a pivot point as they and the power contracts! Sounds convincing... and for longer guns I can see the advantages... all that chord and knotts and pullies are very complex though... do you get more than the usual tangles and misfires with that style of rigging?

Absolutely not. Its not as confusing as you think. It is at first, and rigging it is a bit of a bitch but loading, firing etc is just as easy as any other normal band gun.

If you rig the gun right and dont have parts or pieces where the line can snag on when firing you wont have any problem.

I tried the V2 today and the power is incredible. Accuracy seems great too but Ill have to nake a target with distance markings to be sure. If it is as I think it is, its power and range is that of a standard double banded gun. Ill post a quick side view vid tonight or tomorrow
