Improving breath hold ability?

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Dont ask, just do it. It works! This is more complicated than you think. There is lots to be learned by doing this.

Well I'm not questioning if it works or not I just don't want to develop a bad habit of wanting more air once contractions start. If I use the balloon and practice that technique daily I'm not sure how "adjusted" I'll get to wanting more air after contractions. With the balloon you get more air. Underwater you don't. I just don't want to develop a bad habit that may make it harder in the long run.

And how long does it supposedly take to see some improvement in ones breath hold?

Strange thing, it just doesn't make sense - or at least I don't see the logic in that.

the technique of sort of pretend breathing - with your nose and mouth closed - works - This would seem to be an extension of that. It is interesting in that the mechanism can be employed while diving - without the baloon of course.

I'm wondering if cebaztian was intending it as a demonstration or if this is an actual training technique.

I am brand new to scuba diving, but find myself gravitating to free diving. I just signed on to this website tonight and already I have a boat load of information. I will have more questions I am sure, but right now I just want to thank all of you for your willingness to help out those who are new to this amazing experience...

About 18 mounts ago I got totally fed up with Static and contractions. I started fooling around with the balloon. I learnt alot about my body and its reactions, experiences I could bring back to "normal" freediving.

Sebastian

There is one yoga pose I have noticed have direct impact on Static = the boat.

Hey, I've tested the co2 and o2 tables on the forum for just 4 days now and I have already seen a massive improvement. New to the world of freediving, so for 4 days ago I held my breath for 2 mins and 20 seconds (lying down in my bed). And today I managed 3 mins 40 seconds. So the tables really help alot!!

A question,I'm 175cm tall and have about 6l vital lung capacity, and about 7,3-7,7(not sure, just a guess =D) total lung capacity.
What time do you guys think I could reach if I worked hard and for a long period of time? Is it limited to the size of your lungs or doesn't it matter all that much (more of a mental challenge)?

Appreciates answers!:)

What tables are you talking about. I have a document that records the times that you hold your breath, but I don't think I have seen the ones you are referring to. Care to share a link?

Lung capacity must have something to do with apnea ability but it is hard to put any numbers on it. The ratio of lung volume to lean body weight is my best guess. I 'know' one person who has trained steadily for over seven years, has a vital capacity of 5.2 litres and does seven and half. There are some divers with 50% more lung but no one doing ten forty-five that I've heard of. Why don't you come up with a schedule that you can maintain for a few years, get as much expert help as you can and see where it takes you?
