String him through the eyes......... A young guy got an 8lb mullet on one of the UK threads recently but I don't think he entered it in the comp.

If it wouldnt fit in the gills ya reckon a stringer would fit in the eyes
(Was actually the loop of mono that caused the probs not the bar of steel)
UK is a different story, their record mullet is about 14lbs almost 50% more than ours... that would put that 8lb'er in the other thread just at their specimen range....
I.e. the odds of us finding a 5lb mullet is the same as them finding an 8lb... but don't worry about the odds, you could hop in in the morning and find a double figure... just not very likely

I'd say a six pounder wouldn't be too rare. I've seen plenty myself and I've shot several in the past, up to almost seven.

I really do not understand how windguru flucuates like this...
In the morning it looked sweet... then a few hours later it looks terrible like it does now...
However looking at another long range forcast the weather looks amazing like windguru first called it...

What are the rules for your fishing competition? Is it a speccie hunt?
I think the guernsey fish in will be a speccie hunt(same weekend as yours) with wrasse and conger excluded. It will be intesting to compare results, altho the weather may play a part... There's a low pressure on it's way!!!

No plans at all or rules at all, maybe the only rule will be to have fun and share best practices, tips, etc. between all.
We might going for the amberjacks as THE major trophy...but if we got triggerfish we will be more than happy as well. Beara Peninsula is a true paradise for spearfishing, clear waters, plenty of fish, excellent water temperature and far away from everything.
Like 2 weeks ago we were doing more less the same and let´s say it was a huge success in Mullaghmore, so we wanted to spot a place, still in the peak of the summer to get the participants a good probability to see a bit more "exotic" species
. Of course that mullets and pollocks will be more than wellcome as well as spider crabs, they are plenty of them there. About the low pressure well...we´ve made an agreement with St. Peter and Neptune, we will just take enough and never overfishing there so...they seem to be reasonably happy with the agreement and they will send the lower pressure to somewhere else, maybe into the Channel Islands they were saying ...
We will see Beara Peninsula is great, you can always have a plan B there

Well said pedro. Beara has a sheltered divable spot the majority of the time. I'm working on a few locations so if everyone is cool wit meeting in the one place I'll let ye know what I think and ye can let me know wat u all think of a couple of spots.....

Any preferences on camping? Campsite? Hostel? Hungry hill near castletownbere do hostel and tents. Great place. Full kitchen big bathroom etc. Wash area for gear.....

Ok it looks like it's gonna be a southside of the peninsula weekend due to the nw wind. Was hoping to dive the outer north end near billeragh :-( Hungry hill hostel?????

Yeah, hostel sounds fine, suppose it would be best to have everyone stay in the one place.
Myself and Pedro will more than likely be heading down Fri evening. Not sure yet if we'll make it the whole way Fri evening....might stay Fri night in Kerry.
I won't be there till lunchtime sat coz herself is in hospital. So if ye want a morning dive and we all meet somewhere lunchtime?
