Had a look at the new google+ service which I'm liking very much, nice app for the android phones as well. There is a section called Sparks for interests and hobbies with some interesting stuff when you key in Spearfishing, videos and features from all over the world...theres even a link to a video up on Youtube shot down in cork.

Speaking of apps, does anybody know any good apnea training apps. I have one called static apnea, it's pretty good. You have to punch in the limits yourself but its all voice activated so you don't have to keep an eye on the screen. I have my CO2 tables set at 90 seconds hold and the rest period drops from 60 to 30 seconds over 8 rounds. My O2 tables are set at 60 seconds rest and rises from 50-120 seconds over 8 rounds. I'm trying to do them twice a week.

I think you have the most popular, try https://market.android.com/ and search for "Apnea" and "Freedive"....presuming its an Android device you have Fitzy.
Yep its an android- i've tried another apnea app and deleted it because it was no good, just wondering if anybody else came across anything worth getting. The magic seaweed app is pretty good also for wind and swell reports
Ye, I use a few apps for the weather, tide tables and Windguru has an app as well. The Met Eireann website has a mobile option and it gives a Radar view of the clouds and rain updated every 15 minutes.
I also have Google Maps set to load my "Spearfishing" locations in my maps, anything that looks promising gets marked when I'm on the PC and if I'm working in an area I can get directions to the nearest locations I have marked.
I love all the tech but it ain't worth a curse when mother nature keeps throwing all the crap weather our way :head, I suppose it keeps me occupied though waiting for it to clear.

. All joking aside it looks like there has been some great spearing done during the summer in Ireland,with plenty of friends made on the way. Sure it aint over yet!
We're well and truly settled now so I've been able to manage to get out for a few dives lately. All I've caught so far is a squid but its a 1st so I'm happy. It's squid season here now at the moment so I'm hoping to get out at the weekend to get some more. I live right beside the bay which has really calm conditions with no current or swell, if the weather permits I can head to the backbeaches which has way more life- and not as many speedboats flying around. I've only been there once with one of the lads from a club I'm in, ya wouldn't go there on your own without knowing the place like the back of your hand. I'll get the reports going next time I get out.
The good thing is you can spear all year round. During the winter there can be better viz than summer as there is less swell. At the moment its coming into spring and the snapper and other Pelagics will start moving back into the bay. During the depths of winter there is loads of salmon and squid about to keep busy with. The salmon have a white meat though and wouldn't be great for eating. Apparently they taste good smoked so I might try my hand at smoking when the time comes.
I headed for the bay last weekend but the viz was only about 2-3m. I came across a shoal of salmon so I managed a good look at them. There is so many species to know I'm more of a spectator at the moment. Just before I got out from that dive I was sitting on the bottom in about 3m keeping an I out in front and I looked to my left, what I thought was a rock 2m away from me turned out to be the biggest ray I had ever seen. Frightened the bejesus out of me. It was time to go at that stage anywayrofl
