Congrats Johnny well done on the award. The Irish seem to be very good at winning the early rounds we just need to keep the momentum going throughout the season. No diving for me this wknd unfortunately mechanical difficulties wrecked that chance hopefully next wknd.

Thanks for the congrats lads. It feels like a hollow victory as there was a white bream in the race too.
Mcmahon i dont think you will be doing anything in cork today. swell is near 3M and westerly force 3/4 gusting nearly 6 at times........
u should have come last week man...........

Pity you werent around saturday... managed to get out for over 2 hrs even though the viz wasnt the best...must try and get out when the weather breaks again maybe head out the spiddal rd and try a few spots around there...

Came back from Mizen head , spend there 4 days . What a place !!! Deffinelfy coming back in a summer months . Got out 3 times , nothing impressive ... Couple small pollock , flat fish , wrasse . Few spiders and brownies .see only 1 mullet. Viz was bad , only 2-3 meters . Water temp 9-10 C . I think still to cold or I been in a wrong place but anyway weekend was superb !!!!

Was out yesterday evening.. A bit choppy and again no fish for miles.. Think I might have to go deeper.. I did Feargus course a few months back and only now putting it into practice but as a complete novice my diving has hugely improved. I'm a lot more relaxed and can stay down over twice as long as last year.

I'd highly recommend the course to anyone looking to learn.

Anyway, visibility was ok in depth of 5m but further out it was very murky until you dive to a bit of depth..

Caught myself a massive spider crab, no bag or anything on the float could hold him so had to swim him back in. Tried cooking these last year but it didn't go well. I'm looking to change that as even if there is never fish uou'd usually manage to take a spider.

Any hits or tip on preparing/cooking??

Nice one McMahon.
Boil up a big pot of water with loads of salt or just use sea water. When it's really boiling drop him in. Wait till it starts to bool again time ten minutes. Take him out and straight into cold water.

Ah that's what we call the nack. there is a certain way of separating the legs to pull out the meat. Twits slightly and pull. Plenty of brown meat under the shell and where the legs meet the body is more White meat. Just don't eat the lungs and don't be afraid to get your hands dirty.
It's an outdoor job really. I usually do it on the patio table and eat as I go. Back of a spoon is good to pick out the awkward bits.
