anyone one know if normal socket ac wire would carry a full boats load from battery to isolater switch?

I stand to be corrected here but I'd say it depends on if you're just isolating the accessory and nav light panel or of you're isolating the engine as well. The engine draws a lot of power when cranking and domestic socket wire is a bit light. I imagine it could burn out the wire or even melt the insulation causing a short circuit and sparks...not something you want on a boat especially near the fuel tanks. Maybe heavier 6 or 9mm2 cooker or electric shower cable would carry the load but I'd check it out properly first before fitting it.

What kind of steering is on it? can you replace it with a teleflex cable or is the whole rack gone?

the battery is by the engine and has heavy duty battery cables connecting it so cranking it should be fine. I want to use the heavy duty a.c. Cables to pull the power forward to the helm. I'm running fishfinder, vhf, bilge, nav lights, anchor light and dual cigarette sockets. Amps will be variable due to sockets but based on my fuses I won't be carrying more than 20-30 amps. I'm just trying to use up cable before buying new stuff.

steering cable seems jammed in tilt tube... From center it will turn two times to starboard but only one turn port before getting stuck. I've tried to remove the steering cable from the tiltube but it seems stuckfast.
its annoying cos I plan to have everything done

You should have an auxiliary connection on the main wiring loom that runs from the engine to the throttle controls?
If not, then you can run a 2mm + & - to 2 x bus bars under the console & take of feeds from there.
Most units are fused with a 2amp but you will need an additional 5 amp from the battery isolator switch.

I've been using a 2lb hammer but I don't want to hit it too hard in case I damage the piston
no its an old control so not sure bout loom? My previous boat had battery under the steering so I had busbars and all the instruments ran from them but this boat has the battery at the back by the engine... Like you suggest I just need to run my feed from busbars to battery. Is it as simple as measuring the a.c. Wire to see if its 2mm?

I guess you could use standard household electric cable, you are only dealing with 12v, just disregard the earth.
The nearer to the engine the battery is the better.
You can make up a bus bar from a standard block connector but the expensive stainless ones are obviously better!

I've been feeling a bit "under the weather" for a couple of days but the forecast was too good to miss today. I rang Dirk at 10.00 last night but got no answer so set off alone this morning. I was planning to dive the sand in the tiderun off a headland, hoping for flatties. on the way out I picked up a nice brown crab.
When I got out to the end of the head, a lobster boat came round fairly close in. There were a few angling boats out too, so I changed plans, keeping close to the rocks to minimise the chances of being driven over. I dived for a while, seeing plenty of pollack. I chose to take only one, a fish of 4lb10oz.
On the way back I swam an area of shallow rock that sometimes holds bass. Today I got a mullet of 2lb14oz.

There were a lot of spiders but I already had the brown so I left them.
The water was 10 degrees, a little warmer than last week.

happy days. managed 2 Pollacks again. By the way I found new spot today covered by medium and large size of pollack! Saw Bass and mullet as well.

Visibility 20 + it was like diving in Egypt !!! roflroflroflrofl

He has done it again! Great forecast ahead, from Tuesday/Wednesday should enter a warm water current from south...more than that, warmer weather ahead...Sligo with 23oC next Friday and still no forecast for bad weather ahead, it´s going to be a promissing weekend the next one. I´m going north to Mullaghmore for Friday and Saturday, but southern guys, keep the fingers cross, it really looks promissing there as well!!!

the pollock are finally in... went off blackhead co clare today.... vis was about 10-15mtrs... didnt see much big fish for a while but saw the biggest bait shoal ive ever seen.... had been seen a lot of small shoals and all of a sudden we came upon this huge shoal.. was like one of the bait balls you see on tv... was expecting bigger fish to be swimming in picking them off but nothing... we ended up getting 5 spider crabs between us brother getting the biggest one and then decided to head back.... we then came across a big shoal of pollack mostly small ones and my brother managed to bag himself a nice one reckon about 4 pounds or so, he is gonna weigh him later...were in close to 4hrs at that stage and starting to get tired, its amazing seeing fish gives you some extra energy...great day had and gonna try get out again mid week and next weekend...ohh quick one have my 2 spiders cooked but to tired to attempt to get the meat out... would they be ok to leave til tomorrow afternoon.... was thinking just leave them in pot overnight...

biggest crab weighed in at 2.4kg and pollack was 3lbs 6 ounces..

Rob about the boat.......once your cables from isolator to engine started are 16sq your ok. If your running cable for accessories at the helm I'd see no prob using 2.5t&e once it's kept away from salt water as it will prob corrode.
I'd be more inclined to use 2x2.5 marine grade flex though. It will last longer.
Run it from isolator to 2 busbars and from there to your switch panel which should have fuse units built in. You shouldn't be drawing too much power from the helm. I'll come for a look if u need me to.

Nice catch there. Put them in fridge or leave them somewhere cold. Once there cooked they should be fine.

savage fishing guys!!
pissed off with boat now... Every thing works fine till I turn on the fishfinder (Garmin 160C) and for some reason the vhf picks up a signal on ch16... Turn off ff and the vhf doesn't detect anything. Turn it back on and the vhf picks up a signal on ch16... When I go through the menu on ff the vhf starts clicking on ch16....



feck it... Think I'll go for a swim tomorrow

Hi Kookie, crabs'll be fine in the fridge overnight once they're cooked. I can't be bothered to do mine either but I'll do it in the morning. I'm havin' a glass of Jameson's now.
