These are the morons were up against. Apparently the fish stocks are dwindling due to growing numbers of seals and not over fishing. Who would have thought????? So what do we do now? Kill the seals. Fantastic. How dare those pesky seals eat ALL our fish.

nice fish zara...your fast becoming the pollock king.... was out myself today caught 2 pollock but nothing big...went out west in conemara to a new spot....saw loads of wrasse and plenty of pollock but nothing too big... burst another vessel in my sinus and spitting up blood since i came out... 2nd time this has happened this year...never started using a sinus rinse and i swore i would after it happened last time... viz was about 5-6mtrs no idea of the water temp but we were in close to 4hrs and wasnt cold...
12 - 13 degree 5 mts vis. Milky but good spearo can work in any conditions

kookiebrew, Start using sinus rinse it really work man. It happen to my as well. You have to make sure you recover well. Take brake from diving and then start using sinus rinse to make sure sinus is clear before you go diving. I also use Otrivin spry 1-2 hours before dive as it helps to dry my nose and sinus.
I consulted above with my GP so it should be save

thanks zara.... was meant to start that after last time it happened...defo gonna do it now though... last time i went to dr and he said its not that serious just take a break for a week or so...

Interesting discussion about this organisation, and I have to say that as a beginner I would have loved to find a website were I find guidance and regulations (maybe a map with good spots for diving/spearing?). I did find a lot of information here and on some other web sites/forums of course, but still it would have been great for me as a beginner to see information on an official organisation's website for Irish spearfishing, especially the part with regulations (what, when and how can I shoot fish legally in Ireland?). I can image that this could give beginners more peace of mind instead of just thinking "Oh yeah, i read a post on deeperblue.com from a guy called "bladhaldahe" who said its legal to use spear guns with rubber bands but not pneumatic ones."
Anyway, can report that white strand near castle cove (south coast, ring of kerry) was great last Sunday. Sunshine for 6 hours and amazing viz (8-9m or more?), saw one dog fish and many other ones I cannot name yet. Managed to go down around 6 meters and equalize properly and stay down for a while relaxed, my first time ever I have to say, so great success personally! Sea was quite calm, but not super calm. Kids had fun as well at the beach. Not sure if its so great for spearing, but i did not not go out too far as the sea was a bit rougher there.
Also wondering, if you do not go ahead with an Irish forum on this new website, would it be possible to get a subsection in db.com for Ireland freediving and spear fishing? This way we would not have to squeeze everything in one thread

Only thing, I do it daily (when I remember or when I'm diving frequently) and if you forget to do it for one or two days you'll know... your knose will feel filthy...
All that dust and muck we inhale daily... araagghhh

I'm not in the habit of using it everyday but when I do the difference is amazing. I've seen sites where you can make your own mixture for the rinse but its kinda pointless as the sachets are cheap and I've read reports of people messing up their sinuses with the wrong concentrations of ingredients.
Yes, that's what I use. Works well. I don't use it every day. Just 1 or 2 days before diving twice a day.

I'd be careful of applying pressure if it is, the other ones with the funny necks rely on gravity and do not use pressure.
I wouldn't worry too much about the sachet or alternative... its the cleanlyness of the water you are putting inside your head I'd be worried about. Boil it fully first and mix it hot then let cool in fridge and use. Safest way I think.
PS all you need is unbleeched salt, (most organic stores has it), or you can buy a bag of it on ebay.
