This is only going to add fuel to the fire of NZ's undeserved reputation as a nation of sheep lovers, but it wouldn't be the first time I've found a dead sheep floating in the water where I've been spearfishing.

You're innocently finning along, and "what the f*ck is that", a great big white mess floating next to you in the water - your mind goes through every possible marine creature it could be until you get up the guts to prod it with yer speargun - it's dead. And it's not an ocean-going creature - it's clearly livestock (well, okay, deadstock).

"How the hell did it get here", you ask yourself - only to take a look up at the steep cliffs around where you're diving and see other sheep questing for the last few lush patches of grass on a cliff-side, and the penny drops. She slipped. Tough luck, ewe. Occupational hazard :blackeye

I was out today around Cork, viz was'nt great but enough to fish.
Ended up taking the kayak out to a spot near the old head, had a decent day with a personnel best Pollack.

Tried to weight it but the scales I have are crap, I took some film with the Go pro but needs editing together.

I have a few days off work so was thinking Bass tomorrow, anyone know what East Cork is like at the moment, was thinking Ballycotton Island or somewhere around that area.

Just a quick one, anyone know how to double wrap a comanche 75 I just upgraded the rubbers so I'm hoping for a bit more range and power this weekend !!

Just a few hours for the spearfishing world cup in Vigo, Spain and this is a interesting video of the national team prepping their championship.I know its in Spanish but... Now the area is very similar to what we've got here in Ireland except for the viz witch is far better there (the athletes are complaining about poor viz). You can see that they catch wrasse, mullets and trigger fish.

Managed to get out yesterday evening, the vis was between 2-4 metres and very little swell. I seen lots of mullet, even managed to just tap a few on the tail as they were feeding on the kelp but they just moved on a little and continued feeding...not in the slightest bit skittish. I was after bass and flounder but didn't see any bass at all. The water was an incredible 20c in around the rocks and I could physically feel the temp changing as I went in and out of the rocks and kelp beds. There was a lot of debris in the water in places, including a huge tree that uprooted from somewhere (probably cork after the floods) and has found its way to Wexford. I spent 3 hours in the water just before and after the high tide, and I was feeling the heat as I got out. Seen a few flounder, not as many as previous years but they were a decent size and very meaty, took these three fella's for the dinner...the biggest was 13" long and was around 1.5 Kg.

Nice one Derek! A 3lb flounder is a great size! I'd say the 20c was the surface glare. That would be an Irish record! High would be 15/16 in Ireland.
Just back from a dive too. Very dirty and best viz was 1/2m. Managed a 7lb bass and saw one easily 10/11lb. Saw 4 bass altogether but not much else. Had no computer so not sure the temp.

Ye, the flounder were a great size...a few fishermen that saw me coming out with my catch commented on how big they were. They were very interested in how I caught them and gave me a few other spots to try, had a nice conversation with them and one of them thought he'd love to give 'the spearin' a try . The 20c was on the surface ok but the heat was coming from the rocks...you could see the thermals rising up from them, temp was around 15c a bit further out from them but it was like stepping into a warm bath when I went back in to the rocks.
