What scene is your dad in?, I liked the programme...easy to identify with, when you want a bit of decent food ya think will I go hunting for rabbit or fish

Hi everybody. We finally have an official spearfishing website where anyone can come and read up and familiarise themselves with Irish regulations on spearfishing.
Hopefully this will prevent some of the horrors we have seen lately.
I would like to thank derekn who created the page. He put a lot of time and effort into it. Also vasile who made a massive effort to organise this.

First , well done lads on doing big job for Irish spearfishing community !!!

Second - decided last night to do a early morning session , then my family announced that they want to go as well. as usual happens with women and kids got late on departure -2h . it was bad start !!! i tough my day is gone , but anyway went in to . surprisingly viz was very good around 5-6m at least . then my Suunto announced on first dive to replace his battery - shows nothing .... so no more surprises ? and then is started ... shot my first bass in 10 min second in other 5 min. so what to do now ... i did not travel 2 hours for a 15 min session. start looking for a mullet . anywhere i went it was bass , more bass and even more bass they where laugh in my face it come as close as 0.5m and no mullet to be seen. it took me another over an hour to locate and shout 2 mullets and I called a session. it was brilliant day !!!! :thankyou

it was in Co Wexford .
by the way .... i met one guy on a shore he said to me , that in that particular part of country they allow only 1 bass per day . it is possible ? last year it was 2 per day. newer bother to check on it this year .

Bullshit danas. He's only jealous. They don't have different rules for different areas. Sounds like a self appointed rule by locals to me.

Danas...well done! sorry I couldn't make it. I didn't get to bed until 7am and by the time I got up and got my act together it was late. I managed to go down at 5:30pm and got in for a couple of hours. Seen four bass all at once but I spooked them and then I didn't see any more. You must have got them on the high tide, the vis was the best I've seen down there in a long time. The water temp was 15c according to my watch, bit of a difference from the other night. Hope the weather stays like this for another while, early to bed tonight and try to get out again tomorrow. Whoever told you about the 1 bass limit is making up his own rules as johnnybuoy said, probably trying to put you off spearing there again.

Derek , I was late for a high tide, but was still very close to it. bass was not feeding active . I found them siting still in a seaweed . right at a corner to beach and a pier . will see what is my jobs scheduler this week , if weather stays like this , i will come in for a other session.

Great, I'm fairly easy with times until friday...let me know if you're coming down. They look like they're a good size, I got one about three weeks ago, was just under 4lb. It was stuffed with sand eel...still had some in its mouth. I seen a few large shoals of sand eel today as well but nothing was chasing them.

"Windguru" forecasts can change from day to day. I'd been intending to get out tomorrow but when I checked last night the forecast had changed and the calmest weather moved to this morning. I'd been out in the sun all day Sunday and didn't feel like diving but I thought I'd better go anyway so at 5.30 I got up to feed the animals and make some breakfast. By 7.00 the car was packed and I set off West for my favourite pollack spot. High tide was at 8.50. I managed to get in the water at 7.45 to 8.00 and swam out to the mark.
There were plenty of small to medium fish where I anchored my float. Soon two of them were hanging on it.
Shortly after high tide the current really started to pull, making it an effort to stay level with the float while diving. At the same time a lot more fish arrived and I got a much bigger one which dived and tangled hard in the kelp. With the current and my lack of dive fitness it took me 3 dives to recover it. The next one I stoned dead with one shot.
By then my legs were cramping a bit so I gave it best and started the swim back to shore.


The fish weighed 7.9lbs, 7.7lbs, 5.3lbs, and 3.6lbs.

Temperature was a face-chilling 12 degrees, quite cold for the time of year!

Ah...that´s fine....better better is to get a portuguese world champion in their home soil If you lock Jody Lot in the toilet and you leave him there for 5 minutes he will get at least 2 seabass, a seabream and a conger....without speargun I´ll tell you some stories with him...in championships...he´s just completly crazy...really...in 2007 I think he forgot to put barbs in the spear and still made I guess a 3rd place in the nationals.... Another occasion the RIB broke down just before the beginning of the competition, so he kindly asked a lift from another guy and asked him to left him a zone that the locals called "the desert", completly without fish and the guys collect him just minutes before the end of the competition and he stayed the hole time alone in that area...he won that event... it´s fantastic his achievements in about one year, truly fantastic really, Euro-African Champion + World Champion...!

Regarding Team competition, it´s fine, not that much difference in the top, same level basicly

Once again and despite the great natural conditions here, there was no Team Ireland represented in the event. Could we see (an believe) in a light in the end of the tunnel in order to project the sport and the country in this segment...?

Maybe you should organise a session with him for all wishing members here on d b.That way we can learn from the best and maybe next year an Irish team.I know they are lads well able for the competitions!
