Lads whats the story with a spearing weekend? Was hoping to organise one on 18th Aug in sligo if it suits a few and if the algae bloom has cleared as there aint nothing worth shooting there at present? Also will have a date for portroe training soon if anyone wants to go for depth PB's probabaly end of august.
I'll be there for sure, have a new recipe for mullet with Annascaul black pudding and lentils. It's the best black pudding I've had in years black pudding should ONLY ever be made with FRESH blood not DRIED you can stick your Clonakility. It's a disgrace what HACCAP and EU laws have done to some of Irelands artisan food producers at least some are surviving.
Reagan regarding the Conger not much hassle really, shot him from above just behind the head and he obligingly wrapped himself around the shaft just made very sure he was dead before putting him on my belt stringer.
I have eaten conger a few times before its often available on Moore Street for the Chinese community along with Cod roe which I seem to remember Derek asking about.

Mmm...Cods Roe, I put a little footnote about it on the Species page of the Spearfishing Ireland website. If anyone wants to add a species or footnote on something I missed I'd be happy to include it. Maybe even start a recipe section with some links to those Irish based artisans producing fare that you just can't get anywhere else....any suggestions?

Sue who wouldnt want some Pedro? Ok am going to run with the 18th Aug for wait for a spearfishing competition with a difference. Esseentially whats going through my head and its only an idea is I offer a prize for the best fish recipe cooked on the Saturday night. I am talking to the beach hotel about using their back area for a bbq so will probably have an open day in the centre that day as well. So the only way you win the prize is by coming up with a tasty recipe. Now I know Neal might have an advantage but I am sure a few others will have some home recipes to show off. Will be talking to the hotel this weekend to flesh out how it will actually work. Comments ideas suggestions welcome. Prob wont be back online till tomorrow eve but am interested in what ye think. Will be getting on to Imersion to see hwta the prize will be but probably either a gun or fins and mask etc hopefully a suit if they are felling generous.

I'm definately not interested in a formal spearing comp a cooking comp is somewaht interesting, include freedived catch as well as seashore foraged catch aswell perhaps.
Anyway, my wife is going to a wedding in the UK on the 18th so I'm not sure how likely it is I can go. I will try to make arrangements tho'.
