Great report and sounds like a great weekend was had. I never knew you could get John Dory close to the shore, I'll have to add them to the specie's list on the website....well done lads.

Briefly, it was about 5 to 10 meters from where you got the triggers last year Derek, in that line up sand/kelp on your right, a bit more outside the bay...got the place ?

Regan, fantastic report, I can feel all the energy and yeah... weather was great, the wk didn´t started really well but ok, even if they were few scallops, all together made a fantastic weekend! Thank you so so much for everything and all the pacience, definitly would do it again

P.S.- That hostel in Allihies could be a really interesting place to stay next time, much closer from everything and in your opinion (and in Tripadvisor) a bit superior to Hungry Hill Hostel.

Any idea what the water temp was ??? Sounds like you need to go back to the 7mm suit. If my memory serves me right the last person to post a J.D was Sunfish a few years ago, the guys in the south of the UK see them a bit more often I think.

Goooood stuff.... You know...I´m really thinking in doing a group to go next year around this time to Azores Islands for one/two weeks of spearfishing... Simple plan...diving, enjoying, eating well...!

Azores is truly a spearfishing paradise, absolutly cristal clear waters and for those ones that enjoy only freediving (are you there Feargus?... ), we could plan sometime unforgetable as well.... regarding fish in general...there is a lot, daily bag limit is currently 10 fishes but... if you get a single amberjack it´s already fantastic.... or like Paulo Gaspar... still holds the world record for a bluefin tuna in spearfishing caugh there in one of the 9 islands, in this case in Horta.

Funny you should mention the Azores,was just daydreaming about Madeira yesterday,Wahoo,Dolphin,Albacore,Big eye and Bluefin tuna and a couple of shades of Marlin,I'd nearly sell a kidney for a week in the water with that crew.

No questions about that... It´s also a fantastic place although in generic terms it´s difficult to do dives in "shallow waters". A true paradise for those big pelagic babies like amberjacks...actually it´s going to be in the next 07 August, two years since a new world record for amberjack was set there by Tomás Freitas. I once thought (while in San Miguel) that I could make a fortune opening a fast food outlet in the Azores!
In 1980 there was nothing like that (fast food) but, you could eat in a cafe, the most amazing blue fin tuna.
At the time the world was still complacent about fish stocks & I think we just took for granted that blue fin tuna was just a fish no better or significant than a beef bugger!!
Now I look back & think that I was so lucky to eat fresh bluefin at affordable prices.
The fish itself was amazing to eat, a huge portion of thick tuna flesh served with grill lines across the flesh.
It was bazaarly like fillet beef rather than fish!

We would walk the pier every morning to see the huge 600lb + tuna being unloaded from the big boats to be iced & exported by jet to other countries in the world.

Spent 10 days fishing Marlin in Mauritius back in 2002,caught a hell of alot of Albacore to 30/40lbs,came home built like a tank,pound for pound,Tuna must be the hardest toughest fighting fish in the sea.
