Hello,

This is my first post on Deeper Blue. I'm currently living in Orlando, Florida, and I'm heading to Ireland this summer for the first time. I'm in a wedding in Killarney, and I'll be in the neighborhood for about a week. The rest of the wedding party is getting pumped about playing the nice Irish golf courses, but I'd rather check out some nice Irish fish.

If anybody can help me out with info on the diving possibilities in the area, I'd be very greatful. Of course, if any of your friendly Irish divers care to show a Yank where and how to do it around mid-June, I'd be more than greatful.

Thanks.

I bought my D3 from Aquaholics dive shop in Ireland. It was $300 cheaper than in Australia at the time. I spoke to the guy there about diving and spearing (plan on living there for a while in a couple of years). He was quite knowledgeable and it was interesting to learn that there is good diving in Ireland. Go to
www.aquaholics.org and start from there.
Peter

Peter, thanks for the info. I'll definitely try to follow the lead on this one, but I checked their website and don't see any info regarding spearing.

Any Irish Spearos out there?

Anyone with spearing experience in Ireland?

Thanks.

Heya Deisel,
I'm in London till 2moro,
but when I get back,
I'll have a sniff around and see what the story is with spearos/ freedivers out west (Killarney).

Unfortunately there isn't much organised freediving activity in Ireland,
though what there is does seem to be concentrated on the West Coast, so you may be in luck...

I'll get back to ya when I've got some info - oh! and if you have dates that might be helpful...

BTW: whether yer fond of a drink or not, make sure to ask around in Killarney to see where's a good place to go for a "session"...
its not uncommon to see some bloody good traditional Irish music being played, if you end up in the right pub...

Tis what's known as ""Craic agus ceol" - Irish for "Music and a good time"

cheers

Graham

Graham,

Thanks for the advice on the session . . . that's definitely on the calendar. My best friend from home has just returned from Iraq to his Army post in Germany. He's marrying an Irish lass that he met on leave.

As for the diving, any help is greatly appreciated--if all I get is a couple of good ideas for places to go, I'll be stoked. I'll be there from about June 12-19.

Taylor
