Whilst it's great for the owner (in fact spearfishing.com was pretty defunct over the past couple of years) the person who has now bought the domain may have no desire to utilise the domain for Spearfishing content. It may be someone who will utilise the domain as just a money making venture by displaying paid search listings or such like (see one of our defunct domains http://www.freediving-mag.com) as an example (in our case someone grabbed the domain as soon as we let it expire).

-The IP address belongs to a hosting center in Houston Texas.
-The registrar is also on the committee of cryptozoology.com which is registered at the same hosting in Houston and he/she is the webmaster of the site also.
-Appears to be a computer specialist (I prefer that to geek-although my wife may not agree!) ...I say specialist because he/she uses Linux /PHP/etc instead of Microsoft...much like our Stephan and DB!
-Is located in xxxxxx Beach California... okay... is in the right place to spear!
-Used to have a personal area on spearfishing.com ! (link is now dead)

and the kicker, uses the email address picassoamerica @ yahoo.com

hmmm, Sounds like a spearo, smells like a spearo (well, I didn't smell him/her), looks like a spearo... must be a spearo

At least it was not one of those web squatters

Anton,

That actually doesn't tell us very much as Cisco is the old owner of the site who has just sold it!

I'm still not convinced that it isn't a web squatter. I don't know anyone in the industry who has that sort of cash available to buy a domain - but lets see if i'm proven wrong.

ahh,
Sorry Stephan, I was looking at the expiration that had been renewed early this morning and figured that cisco was the new owner... hadn't reckoned that he was the old guy... guess for that kind of price he is doing the new buyer a favor (and I never looked at the seller detail for ebay!)

He says theres going to be no change but surely there has to be a commercial slant on this deal? at least run an online store? holidays?
When you buy that winning ticket uk sprearo is the one to see Im sure he would let you have his for that money or me for that matter Im sure I could find a domain name somewhere ;)
Well I hope he makes something of it, it cant but do good to the sport.
