JetBoots!

Got to play with a pair of JetBoots a few weekends ago.

Finally got around to putting up some of the clips on youtube today.

The first day was spent getting used to them and spearfishing. My floatline was only 100' and I couldn't reach the bottom with my gun so I pretty much gave up on that and just played with my gopro and the boots. The other guys were running longer float lines or reels. Smart.

For the 2nd day we headed to the YO-257 wreck off of Waikiki. No guns or hunting. Just messin' around with the submarine and the bubblers. :thumps:

Future of free-diving/Spearfishing? Discuss.

I know I want a pair! Not available to the public yet. Soon most likely.

I would say they should only be sold to experienced freedivers. Issues:
- equalization
- On a longer day a DCS modeling freediving watch should be used (like the liquivisions)
- Would have to be done in pairs of equal level and equipment
- watch for hook-ups on the swim-throughs..

Those would be awesome where I often dive! Not deep (10-15m) but strong currents sometimes make it hard to get to or stay on the small structures.

Totally agree! Most people probably first think of how deep they can go, or how quickly they can cover hunting grounds. Here in Hawaii, the waters are almost always clear (60-120' viz) and the fish are smart - when they see a diver dropping, they flee. The best spearos know they need to hide on the bottom for a minute or two before the fish will start coming back in.

The real bonus for me is the ability to stay over my target bottom spot in a current and while being able to remain completely motionless and breathe-up properly for a long bottom time. Forget about doing that while fighting a current by kicking with fins. Once I get to the bottom, I turn off the JetBoots and can just lay there for a couple of minutes. It's sweet.

Those Jetboots look really nice. Do you know how much they cost?

From using them, do you recall if the propellers in the thrusters have opposite rotation to torque cancel, or are the thrusters identical (both spinning the same direction) to reduce manufacturing costs?
