Kayak Designing & Building

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Why build a whole boat when you could just build a removeable skeleton platform with seat to connect two old surfboards or windsurfer boards? Sort of like outriggers but with a riding platform right between them just off the water? you could put anything on the platform or the surf boards you wanted. It could all come apart to make car-top transport easy. The platform could attach to the surfboards via vise like clamps on the surfboard edges (across the top, squeezing in on the sides) secured either mechanically or tied by via a truckers' hitch knot. I'm confident there is enough expertise on this board to make it work. Keep it simple. Think of those one or two man inflatable river fishing catamarrans but with surfboards for pontoons. Or maybe just build two outriggers on a skeleton frame with seat that would mount on top of one surfboard?

Nice one. Im an advocate of the whole "platform" concept also but for different reasons (as a center of resistance where a winch can be fixed to lift speared tuna :martial). Here, the focus is on a completely new product in the making: The lean mean spearing kayak machine :D:D made entirely for spearos needs.

I'm not forgetting this thread... but a lot of work :( :( !!!

Next month, a friend of mine open a workshop... a boat building one with all the needed!!! Hopefully I will be able to start the kevlar kayak building and post picts of it.

The spearo kayak design is coming together... but a sport boat designer is having a look at my clumsy essay to correct a few mistakes... I don't want to end up on top of a bath tub!!!

There are some interesting links about kayaks and design to forge you own ideas about...

A few pictures of kayak building (those guys have an amazing "spearo" design)

those are fast... real fast. But unstable and not really good for distance paddling:

Wow, great links, Pablo! I'm drawn to the surfski site. That's pretty much what I had envisioned. The Wilder Wave model with the outrigger looks particularly promising. With just a little more storage it would be sweet. Or maybe I missed the storage capacity somehow?
