Lake Geneva - April 26th, 2008

Bgill- wondering how the vis is in Geneva? Went up to Crystal Lake Yesturday and the vis was only about 5'.

I may still go again yet today...Hoping for a LITTLE bit of sun...

Just the other day the vis was really good for about 15 feet...then bits and particles were in the way...But you could still make out the "shadows" of fish as they swam AWAY from me (mostly smalleys)!

The effects of wind and rain don't last very long on Geneva! There is USUALLY always fair to excellent vis on Geneva...Even after a good rain or wind. And as you've seen even in the middle of summer it aint too bad.

Has there been alot of rain up by Crystal Lake...There are sooooo many "Crystal" lakes in Wisconsin. One of 'em I was at when I was a younger man had a swim raft anchored in about 30 FOW off of a public beach...I used to "pull" myself down on to the bottom on the chain and sit there looking at fish...Pretty soon other kids started dropping coins for me!!! I made a few bucks there! Probably not the same "Crystal" lake though...But it was CRYSTAL clear and had some nice sized perch in it.

I'm ITCHIN' to get back on "Golden" pond too! I've slayed some "freakazoid big" fish outta there early in the season! I know a state record dogfish lives in there! I actually already killed two of 'em last spring! Both went over 12 pounds easily! And I've seen some I was AFRAID to spear with just my polespear! Hardest fightin' spearable fish in Wisconsin I'd say) The record is only like 10 or 11 pounds I think. Had one of 'em last year bend a three prong all to heck! You know how hard it is to bend a good three prong? HARD! And you seen the "baby hippopotimi" already!

See ya soon guys...Can't wait...IT'S ON BRUTHA!

P.S. hey Whopp man...You kickin' big doo doo with all that rep! Good on ya' buddy!

Never made it to Geneva Yesterday...But am hoping for a few hours this afternoon...I spent the day yesterday out in "the yard" with my family...And getting the pool ready for use! It was a fun day!
But today I must harrass some fish! :martial

Went to Delavan Lake today...The vis pretty much sucked...Only 4-6 feet at best...I really thought the vis would be better? :( Oh well...

I did'nt see ANY shootable fish at all...I saw a few Largemouth Bass and alot of small dead bluegills...That was it. I wonder what killed the little 'gills?

After cruisin' around for an hour and seeing ZILCH the dang Largemouth scared the crap outta me! He was a nice one! 6 pounds or better! I need to get me a mask with BLACK silicone! But I suppose it would've caught me by suprise either way! :D

I shoulda' went to Geneva...But the water in Delavan was 54 degrees! Geneva was only 41 degrees the other day!
Brrrrrr....Cccccccold....:(

B.T.W. - my camoed neoprene icefishin' gloves I got at Cabellas kept me mitts nice-n-toasty too! Only 12 bucks! And they rock! :martialVelcro straps and all! My hands actually stayed dry!

Ok- we need to pick a spot to go into Geneva. Shore entry. I don't care where- but Lets pick a spot. Weather looks to be good on Saturday.

I'll throw out "three choices"

1. The "New" Water Safety Patrol Building - Never dove there but its REALLY close to where I USUALLY go...However there were not many fish around there last week. But Khel also may be able to "open the place" for us? Close to fairly deep water too.

2. Library park off of "50" near Downtown Lake Geneva - Relatively shallow, but may hold alot fish? Icefishermen catch fish there all winter long. Could be good?

3. The small park near Williams Bay boat launch - Hwy. 67 & Geneva Street - Never tried it. But the sun should be warmin' up the shallows there also.

There is also "Abbey Lagoon" I know the water temp in there has to be close to 50 degrees...I also know that it's LOADED with bluegills.

Khel- which of these 3 would you say? I'm not familiar with this lake as you are- We could always try Library Park- and if it's dead- move.

I'd go either at WSP or at Big Foot Park (another side of city of Lake Geneva) - not as crowded as library park, and more convenient parking, plus, as a bonus, there's a wreck of "Lady of the Lake" (1900 or so steamboat) in 30 ft or so.

Unfortunately, looks like I wouldn't be able to make it - have a graduation at university, so, I have to work.... I'll try to sneak out for a couple of hours though....

p.s. local fisherman told that most of the fish hasn't moved to shallows yet... :(

so are we still on saturday or what if so i am there fo sure :martiali am ready to take out some fish me and my new gun are ready to get in the water. see how well scott and his hammer do i think they will be :crutch back but thats just me :) just joking bro you know i have to do it of course i keep it up i will come home looking like this :blackeye so ill shut up now. hope to see eveyone there

I say we give Big Foot Park a try first- say we meet there at 9am-9:30ish.

7 parks, 5 boat launches, and 5 swimming areas...Not including the WSPB! :)

So there are plenty of places to try! I'll bring a beach towel to sit on if we move! We ARE doing a shore entry right?

Our biggest problem may be visability...We may have to get away from any feeder streams in order to find clear water. But like I said before...Even on a low vis day (after rain) Lake Geneva is gonna be better (vis wise) than almost ANY other lake in the state. It HAS however been raining cat's & dogs here ALL day long...:hmm The good thing is that it WILL have warmed the water by a degree or two. We can only hope that with all of this recent rain that all the silt and debris in the feeeder streams has been cleaned off from prior flooding/rain. Then it may not be bad at all.

Other than that I also talked to a few fishermen...They said that the fish WERE just starting to move up into "the bays"...Find the warm water and thats where the fish will be. They did pretty good on crappies I guess - somewhere in/near William's Bay.

Now it's raining like crazy! I'm still in ! Howerer I'm only 10 -20 minutes away from anywhere I wanna be on the lake! I'm not sure how far a drive it is for you guys...

Let me know if you're still coming. If not...I'll be going by Library park or "The Flats" off of Hillside Road...Possibly "Abbey Lagoon" too. I hope there is atleast 10 feet of vis somewhere...

Viz most likely is shot... it's really windy second day in a row and rain doesn't help either :( ..... and I'm stuck at work :waterwork

Well then, I'll just have to break out the "glass bottomed sailboat" and we'll go water skiing! rofl

Maybe Abbey Lagoon will be worth it? I heard it was already up to 60 degrees in there! Sheltered, and no "inlets" either...So hopefully the vis is there...

If nothing else we'll get to "hang out" with friends & have a nice lunch in the town of Lake Geneva...:p

In case we just HAVE to get wet - My pool is already at 64 degrees! But no spearguns allowed in there! :t

I'm thinking I may release a medium sized carp in there "the pool" as the fall approaches! The chlorine will be gone...And for some reason I just wanna try a "Christmas Carp!".....

Hmmmmm...Just realized something...I REALLY AM A HICK! roflBut I'm sure all of you knew that already! :t

Khel - Too bad you gotta work...It would be cool to see you again...You seemed to be a really cool guy! PM me sometime for my phone number...You live not even 15 minutes from me - I think? I can "make" time to go diving on most weekdays and afternoons if we plan a little bit in advance...Also on weekdays Lake Geneva is not as busy! So call me when you need a dive buddy! I'm there man! I have a feelin' today is just gonna be alot of driving around the lake...But hey...WE'LL TRY!

Well, the Water was clear & cold. We had about 20-25' of vis. I saw lots of Small Fish and alot of Crayfish. There were a few Large Northerns and I ended up catching a Mudpuppy - those things are cool. We were in the water for a couple of hours and decided to get out- my toes were cold from the 37 degree water.

We decided to finish the day with lunch at Mexican Resturant. Was pretty good.

awsome! awsome! awsome!! that rocks!

how about michagan bays(door co.)? i imagine that water is crystal clear right now.

It is probably clear- and cold- Which is fine- there may not be as many fish around- hopefully in a few weeks- I'll pretty much drive anywhere- especially this Summer. We also are doing an event "Wazee Camping Weekend" it is in Black River Falls - maybe 1.5 hours from the Twin Cities. The lake is really Clear (Lake Wazee)- It's an old Iron Quarry.

There is another spearo up there by you BAERCLAW. Might want to send him a PM and see where he goes too.

Like the pics. Is everyone shooting a HH these days, or are all you guys sharing one its so nice?

Both myself and Tass have HammerHead 75cm. dotey has a Spetton ATI 2 (I think that is what it's called) does kinda have the colors of a HH. Never noticed that before.
