I have seen dive companies offering to take on & train OW divers to DM standard in return for working in shop/as a DM. I'd love to do this, but am sure there are pitfalls to avoid. Could anyone give me any advice on this at all? How much cash would you need to survive the first few months, say in Thailand or Vietnam? When you're a qualified DM, do you then get paid? Any guidance/personal experience gratefully appreciated.

Scooby.

Pitfalls
Remember nothing is free in diving , and many exotic locations will lure you with the promise of free training - exclude airfares , accomadation and food - expect you to eventually pay for your course - in flesh ( time and commitment )
Bonuses
Exotic location - relatively cheap holiday - lots of diving
Pitfall
Expect to be treated as a slave
Cheers
