Make a spear shorter

For 75cm gun it will not make big difference.
Cutting is easy. Drilling a hole is bit harder, not super hard.
You just have to make a spot first and then drill. And take some time, its slow process. (it depends on shaft material and how good drill u have)
Dont forget to cool drill down sometimes.

You compensate for the lost lenght with the pranger more or less, a heavier (thicker) shaft is preferred for better impact. In this country, the pranger is still used as the preferred spear during competitions for just about any species of reef fish. Many mulloway, yellowtail kingfish and snappers are also taken with the pranger. The close range is essential, but pranger is as acurrate as a straight pointed spear if balanced right. Remember reading a story about using them on dogtooth tuna in Coral Sea to dispatch fish quickly from hungry reef sharks.

Wow guys great info!!! This forum truly amazes me , did already read alot the past few months, but to participate is even better! Fortunately ,or maybe unfortunately I've got a few months before I finaly can hit the water somewhere in the Med. So stil got some time to think it all over and decide to cut it down or to buy a second shaft. Anyhow, thx again for all the info and fotoos,I realy learn alot and I hope that in the future I can contribute also to you all .

Great pics Martin,nice last pic , so thats the way to go with the dyneema wishbone. Metalwork is not the problem for me,got the tools and the skills

Actually, it was former world record Dogtooth Tuna. Just thought it might be of some interest to some (please note this story doesn't come from just an average spearfisherman though and it's not about a 75 cm gun anymore, but still ...).

"The first fish I shot was a Dog Tooth Tuna of about 45-50 kg and I was surprised at its strength as it submerged my Riffe Float for a short time while towing me along the reef, but this excitement was short lived as a large group of sharks quickly devoured the fish spear and slip tip!
After that dive I was back to using a trusty pranger (multi prong heard) on a 3/8 6' shaft, ... As the trip progressed the divers became more confident with their diving and more effective at attracting the dog tooth in close. On one afternoon after moving to a different section of reef we found a school of Tuna from 70-100 kg range and after about 1 hour of diving I was lucky enough to land an 83 kg (pending new world record) Dog Tooth Tuna. ... My luck started the dive after Greg’s when a group of large fish swam in and I was able to spear one just behind the head with a pranger. The fish turning white and rolling over for a few seconds before heading over a platform, we were diving on at about 100' and heading for the bottom 300' below. As I headed for the surface my float passed me heading for the bottom, tangled in another divers rig which I grabbed and stopped my float disappearing like Greg’s. Luck was on my side this day with the shot being a good one and the fish was quickly pulled back to the surface and away from the sharks."

Hey Mohawkbones,
the 'pins' are perfect for dyneema. It's a smallsmooth round pin in the shaft. low enough for a closed muzzle.

Sorry to revive an thread that's been dead for a while but I have a similar problem.

I have a Cressi Commancher 75 and 90. 115 and 130 cm spears respectively.

So, from what I've gathered from the responses, if I use the 115 cm spear in the 90 cm, I am going to lose accurary?

The reason I'm asking is it makes my life simpler if I only have to order one length of spare spear. It also means I can swap spears between guns if I ever have to. And lastly, like the OP, my longer spear doesn't fit in my carrying case.
