i know this topic has long been discused here on DB but i was just wondering how many of you out there make a living from water related activities: such as commercial spearing, police diver, dive instructor, and the many other options.

the reason why im asking this is that right now im kind of puzzled at what to do with my life (give me a break im only 19 its not like im going through a mid-life crisis) so i want to know what the prospects are and what you did to get there.

thanks

Rene Potvin from eastern Canada did commercial spearfishing in Rhode Island. All by himself he spearfished for 8 hours a day and then sold the fish the same evening, for 4 months. He said it was insanely exhausting, no free time, and what free time he had he spent resting from exhaustion. However, his average dive time doubled from 1'30" to 3'00"++.

Currently there are only a handful of freediving instructors in the world; until the sport gets bigger, you won't be able to make a great living by only teaching courses.
