Just wondering what type of flourescent dye to use. Have enough black floatlines and want to make a few NEON ones.
:p
I'm in Nor Cal if that makes any difference.

You're going get tired of apologizing someday, Abri.:ycard

Fuzz, go with clear tubing and head over to Home Depot for the flourescent red chalk used in chalklines. The blue and white chalk gets absorbed too early here in No Cal. So Cal, OZ and Jburg too.

That explains it...:head

:naughty

doh, set myself up for that one. :(

Actually I just threw that in so someone doesn't recommend a brand of dye only found in thailand, south africa, etc.

BTW, nice marlins abri ;) one day.......

Welcome to the family , Fuzz .
Glad to see you take it in the spirit it was meant . Always assumed California was the home of psychedelica ...:D

Gimme some time ...

I'm working on a photo series on how to make a bungee floatline .... might be interesting.

What Abri was trying to say was: Take the right drugs and your floatline will be any colour you want.. And all at the same time...

:D

Not too sure how acid or crack will affect your bottom time but..:hmm

Or you could try a phosphorus based paint for maximum visibility in dirty water.

My laywers tell me that I can neither confim or deny the possibility.

I would however like to make the following statement:
I did not inhale. And I did not have sexual relations with that woman.

I find that decending through a cloud of silver baitfish and seing a big Kingie cruising below is better than any drug (that I may or may not have had) anyway.

phosphorous based paint?

would I dilute it first?

I just used some RIT dye and stained the tubing black, not coated it, so not sure how to use paint. Shouls I coat it or just let it stain as well?

My float came with some lovely orange line (kind of springy, and slightly boyant).

It catches the available light pretty well and is far more visible than black.

Thought I'd better mention this before someone suggests radioactive dye...

You are a genius!

Radioactive dye for the floatline, spent Uranium for the slip tip and a small tactical nuclear warhead for a powerhead...:D :D

Hey Fuzz, are you painting the plastic tube and not the line inside? I think most of us were assuming that you were going to stain the line itself..
Paint will crack and peel when the tubing is bent. :hmm

My dive buddy uses white line, and i use lumo orange, and his line is more visable than mine.

The chalk goes in the tube, kids.

Hey Fuzz, seeing as how you're in No Cal, head over to most any shop and just grab a line made by National Divers. Most are 30-some feet and for 25 bones, you could pss away your time and ducats a lot easier. National's head cheese, Carl Krupansky is a long time freediving champ, and a helluva nice guy, as most of us ex competitive spearos are.

PM me, tell me where you're at and I'll hook you up with a shop.

ex competitors?

wasn't carl in the picasso meet?

yeah, I should just buy those from national, but I've always found fun in modifiying or making my own stuff, so wanted to try it out ;)

Didn't want to paint the tubing - or if I did, only the inside, exactly for the reason shadowkiller mentioned - the peeling. That's why the staining RIT dye works so well - unfortunately, the orange made it look just like kelp. Great for camoflauge, horrible for trying to locate your line. :(

GRIFF, where did your friend get white line? Sounds great!

its R20 (2$) for 30m at any hardware shop. its not great line, its actually washing line, but its strong and it does the job well. so far no breakages.
