Hi everyone,
I recently joined this forum with some questions, I believe I may have found the answers for. I ordered this book from Amazon, its amazing,,,I was up for hours last night reading and educating myself on this sport. I would recommend anyone who wants to gain a better understanding of the physics of freediving read this. It is a very technical and comprehensive work.
"Manual of Freediving" Underwater on a single breath by Idelson Gnocchi

ISBN # - 1928649270

It is a translation from the Italian authors. You get used to the subtleties of the language and grammar after a few pages.

By the way, it has several exercises to increase the efficiency of the breathing, the finning, mental approach, etc, etc. Also, the author does not advocate hyperventilating to reduce CO2 levels prior to the dive. His approach is safety, and efficiency by training.

Okay, I 'll shut up now, but check this out,,,,you can read excerpts at Amazon if you are interested.

I would like to hear from anyone who has read this book and is following the routines advocated.
Kevin

Well, if you mean this one:

Then that is the well known book by Umberto Pelizzari, not Idelson Gnocchi as far as I know. Idelson Gnocchi may be the translator or publisher, but Umberto's book is considered a bible among freedivers, although beginning to be slightly outdated - since the time it was written the freediving sport and its training methods continue to develop. However, it is still definitely worth of reading.

Just use the search function above in DB forum menu - there are many threads discussing the book. As for hyperventilating - you won't find a lot of people here or in the sport who would advocate hyperventilatin. That's a very dangerous and counterproductive technique, and just a good way how to kill yourself.
