Mares Razor Aqua Fins?

I recently found these fin blades (Mares Razor Aqua) online from a reputable spearfishing website for a very reasonable price. Has anyone heard anything or given them a try? I already have Mares foot pockets (plastic fins) and figured it may be worth upgrading to these guys. Are they really fiberglass?

Another transparent fin - at last! They look great (pity I already recently bought new fins - doh! Typical!):

- similar to the wonderful clear Omersub Ice, which unfortunately had a reputation for blades breaking

If they really are fibreglass (AmE. fiberglass), I would expect/hope they are more robust that the Omer Ice. I can see why you are wondering though, if they really are glass-fibre (AmE.glass-fiber): Wouldn't you see the fibres? Wouldn't it be more opaque/translucent and less transparent?

If:
1. The blades really are transparent/translucent and
2. Made of tough fibreglass and so: a) unlikely to break and b) provide better finning and
3. The footpockets are good and
4. They are Reasonably priced (& spares too)
Then I would think Mares may have hit on a real winner with the Mares Razor Aqua

Anybody have a UK price for these?

Scubaland who are generally pretty well priced compared to everyone else..................... £220!!!!!!!! They would have to be damn special for me to even consider purchasing them, I could get a Riffe speargun for that kind of money, I think I'll stick with the Seac Shouts! Nothing against Scubaland, I have used them before and will again, they are very well priced, Mares Razor Aqua however are not............................. In my opinion I should say

I found them for $84 on spearfishingworld.com for a pair of blades (no foot pockets). That seems very reasonable...but for some reason they have them in the same category as the plastic fins???

$84 sounds reasonable if you have footpockets that fit - which probably means Mares footpockets (wonder if they'd fit Beuchat footpockets?! ).

Just received a call from spearfishingworld.com...they are no longer receiving the product. Mares cancelled the shipment as there were some issues during testing. The product will be discontinued.

Too bad they are no longer available.
Properly saturated fiberglass is clear, so no problem there. If anyone is wondering about the transparency, look at a surfboard. You can easily see through to the foam.

Pity Can't help thinking the day will come soon when all major manufacturers will offer transparent blade upgrades, it's going to happen. Fibre glass seems like a good option for spearos (like "killing 2 birds with 1 stone") and they don't have to be totally clear, translucent would likely be close enough - as you really just want the basic background color & texture to come through.

Yea, I was kind of bummed out but at the same time I will be much better off getting carbons...but at a price lol. The fiberglass would probably be too stiff for my taste anyways.

I gather fibreglass is much tougher and cheaper (both good properties for spearing) although significantly heavier. Weight (& size) should be a consideration if you walk in to remote dive areas carrying your gear much. Less weight => less effort required. I expect carbon coincidentally has remarkable fining properties too .
