Marking a descent line

I tried the search engine and found nothing so please tolerate a newbies first thread.

We need to mark out depth increments on an 11mm braided descent line. I know the usual method is electricians tape but this line will need to pass through a pair of rope clutches and will also have a rope brake wearing at it.

I am worried that any kind of marking tape or twine (like dental floss) will come off and jam a clutch or rope brake.

I am certain I have seen specialized rope paint advertised but I can't find it anywhere on-line.

Does anyone have any advice for a method of rope marking that will not tangle or jam in a rope brake?

Hi Jake.
All good climbing shops should sell a rope dye for marking the middle of a climbing rope.
It does fade a bit over time, but it is water-proof.
You could just try indelible marker pen and see how long that lasts.

yeah you can can indelible marker for caving and climbing ropes - think caving supplies are best place to try, as a touch specialised for a general climber or mountainer.

Thanks team. I guess indelible marker pen makes the most sense.

The loadings on this rope are never going to be extreme so I figure the reservations the climbing guys have can be largely ignored.

i used a spray-can for outdoor and it does the job in saltwater since more than 4 years, it will be quiet some work using a pen to mark a long rope
