That's right. And if Stepanek doesn't pull off CNF this time, he will loose some credibility by announcing the spectacular triple. He gets more pr this way I guess, but at the same time there will be more pressure on him to actually do it this time. It's exciting, that's for sure.

I do not think so. It is a common strategy to announce records in all depth disciplines, because you have to announce the attempts long time in advance, and often it is difficult to estimate which one(s) you will really try. For example, if I remember well, the last time, Martin could not complete his CWT record attempt due to bad weather, but because he also announced a CNF record, he could at least try that one in the protected Dahab Blue Hole (it was not deep enough for the CWT or FIM records though).
I doubt very strongly that he intends to attempt breaking all three. He always announces records in all three disciplines (and most other freedivers do it in the same way).
I am sure that you are right that they do, but it seems like Stepanek is flagging the triple in a different way than most others I have seen. I am sure you have seen his web page:

If Martin puts his mind to it he can do just about anything - I wouldn't be surprised if he surprises us all

Well Francesca, you and I are the "gossip girls" of freedivng. We just love all the news for exciting reporting. Bring it on- Martin ( or anyone else) !!!!
I don't understand how, and who he will lose credibility with. Definitely not his students ( FII), or spearfisherman... If he does accomplish this feat, I could only imagine what it will do for him. I just don't see how any harm can come from him trying. I mean it's not like he is forgetting to put air in wife's balloon or something.
While I have high confidence in Martin's ability, and I am sure he will break several records this year, he, like most other top athletes, has had his share of challenges and set backs. He was not always successful in every attempt.

Still, only a few failures considering so many successful records. Kike Curavic has the record for the most number of failed record attempts, too many to keep track, and not a single successful one.
Hopefully Martin's upcoming attempts will be successful. Maybe he can add an 11'40" static and make it a quadruple crown.

Of course Stepanek will not loose credibility as diver. But when you announce triple record attempts for the second time and don't pull it off, this kind of announcement will loose some credibility, at least if you try it a third time. And we are talking about CNF here.
