Mask for big face!

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Don't know if you saw my review of the Zero3
Zero3 review

And my Gratuitous mask porn post in the same thread:

Believe it or not I actually own and use all these - though the Sphera gets the most time as I need contacts with the rest of the low vols and have got away from the script lenses (don't much like the Alien).

The Cressi Matrix is a really nice mask for moderate depth diving. I've found the Cressis a little tricky with fit though - the Matrix works great for me - but not the Big eyes or the Occhio plus. Couldn't get either of them to seal even dry.
The Mystic has a really nice skirt - very soft and flexible, great viz, low vol.; might be worth a try.
The Alien has a smaller field of view and the nose pocket is small and pushes up. Aqualung micromask is also nice - though he seal is more temperamental than the Mystic.

Of course the Sphera rules for me because some of them correct my vision - and it is super compressible. But it is also fragile, scratches, and the lenses eventually pop out - plus downward viz is crap which makes it bad for spearing.

My votes for you would be the Matrix or Mystic (with a possibility of the Cressi Big Eyes or Occhio Plus)

Personal favs are - in order of favoriteness: Sphera, Micro, Mystic, Zero3. Matrix gets special mention - Fav but for that I like to dive deep anymore. Also: My mystic has been on loan since I got it - but it is super comfortable and could usurp the Micro.

I AM CUNFUSED NOW???!!! IN YOUR TEST THE MYSTIC WINS !!! :rcard ???!!!

I have a plan, I live about 20 miles from the Apnea store https://www.apnea.co.uk/index.php?cPath=1_4 so I think the best move would be to pay them a visit. Unfortunately the 20 miles is over water so it means a 10 min flight (although in reality the whole flying trip takes at least 2 hours) or the one hour fast ferry trip.
Either way it is a quite expensive day trip...
I am thinking about two mask styles, a retro one for hunting the weed & a less retro one for diving!

Foxfish, I'm getting the impression you live someplace awesome.

Tuboludo, Sphera and Micro and Matrix are the three I've used the most.

The Mystic has been out of my hands almost since I got it - so my opinion of it is based mostly on dry tests. If I get out today I'll take it and give a report. I can say visual field is good (maybe just this side of the Micro though) and the skirt is very soft. The design has potential for eyebrow pressure - but not to the degree of the Zero3 - probably about the same as the Micro, which gives me no problem.

I'm trying to stay away from declaring a winner because everyone is different. As I said, the Sphera has special status because of the underwater vision correction, peripheral vision, fit and compressibility. I guess it would be the winner. However, if I didn't need the correction, I'd probably go with something sturdier most of the time. I just happened to have a stash of about 6 spheras (most of which I've repaired with silicone calk). In the low volume realm, Sphera excluded, the Zero3, Micromask and Mystic all rate pretty high with me. As I said in my review - pick the one that fits best and be happy. If you cannot try them on I think the Mystic is probably the safest bet; but thats not a guarantee.

Maybe instead of paying for that flight, you should buy ALL the masks mentioned rofl

I am rather bemused by your eternal problems with masks, Tuboludo. Similarly like you I tested countless masks (at least 50 different ones in my careeer), I wear a mustache just like you (i'd tell it has perhaps even a bit longer hair), never use vaseline or anyting else for improving the seal, and my face is not so far from yours too, but I can't remember a mask that I would have such problems as you. I can use practically any mask - some are better, others worse, especially in the aspects of comfort, adjustability, compressibility, inner volume, or the field of vision, but I do not really remember any mask that would not seal. Well, there were some exceptions, but those were broken masks with a hole along the strap, or under the nose. Or I simply forgot those that were so miserable, too quickly. But it definitely is not a common problem.

So to be frank, I am starting to suspect that your eternal sealing problem is not because of the mask, or because of your face or mustache, but rahter because of the way you use the masks. The typical errors are tightening the strap too much on the surface, not equalizing the mask properly, or doing grimaces, or getting facial cramps underwater. Perhaps, when you dive, you still think your are on camera and try to speak or lough. Or you just do some funny grimaces when equalizing the ears.

Normally, the strap tightened lightly, air in the mask always under sufficient pressure, relaxed face, and there is little chance the mask will leak whatever brand it is, and regardless if you have a beard or not. And don't forget to remove the hood from under the mask (that might be the problem on your last video with your Liquid Skin mask). And if some water gets in, just blow it out and go on.

rofl HA HA HA HA rofl Maybe it is because God hates me since I don't believe that he (or she) exists!

Or rather, like you are suggesting, I am just a moron (a "f...ermoron") rofl

But good I have a nose clips now that I can use for the deep dives – no mask problems there! :ko
