Simple answer to this one:
1) Clear skirts give you an 'extra' peripheral vision - although it is very hard to make out what it is you are seeing.
2) Black skirts increase the brightness and hence visual accuity of the field of view due to the removal of peripheral lighting.
If you are diving in bright waters then you can use a clear skirted mask with no loss of visual accuity. In dark murky waters (that, unfortunately, are the norm here) you are better off with black silicone.

Hi,
the biggest problem with clear skirt is that when the sun beat's down, you get too much light in your eyes and that blind you. that's why i dont use my Oceanic Trend 3 for day dive anymore. The deeper you go, the less light you got and your retina as to adjust to that changing visibility. The less difference there is, the faster your eyes will adjust.
On a night dive, the clear skirt is nice so you can keep an eye on your body's dive light beside you.
