Sorry I've been away for a bit. We got a new computer with Win 8 built in and it has been nothing but trouble. Be warned, 8 is unrotted horse manure. Do not seek out, do not accept, use almost anything else. Horrible. Tomorrow it goes back to Best Buy and the Geek Squad will be charged with wiping it off my machine and replacing it with 7. Everyone I know who uses 7 has been happy. Right now, I'm reduced to using my laptop via WiFi. Sheesh!

The 'rest of us' found a solution to this problem 28 years ago. It's been decades since I 'lost' the battle but it still feels great to say 'I told you so.'

It seems to be a reoccurring pattern that one version is good, the next one utter crap.

Not that I care as I don't use it anyway, I'm a penguin guy, they can dive better than windows as well :) *go-hide-in-corner-for-bad-joke*

Linux has only been available since 1991, Bill! You're sure you've got your timeline right?

Heh, Tux would make a great freediving mascot too. Well, maybe he's a little too roly-poly to respresent freediving, and he's always sitting down. I think a more slender penguin who's less of a couch potato would make a great mascot though.

Has anyone ever created a mascot for freediving events?

How can you ask like this! Have you never heard about The Deepest Bear?!

Ha ha, thanks for the reminder, Trux! Yes I did see Deepest Bear a few years back, then totally forgot about him. Great Mascot.

Now that the Brits have their mascot people are going to have to start creating some for other countries.

'Bill! You're sure you've got your timeline right?'
My memory isn't what it used to be but wasn't it the Super Bowl in '84 that we first saw a computer that gave you what you want instead of the other way around.

I think that was it, and I've been happy ever since.

I loathed Vista. If Win 8 is worse, I don't want to imagine how awful it must be.

By all evidence, 7 is very good. Unfortunately, Microsoft has locked in contracts with the computer makers that force the consumer to either accept 8 or void their guarantees and install 7 on their own. I'm tempted but since the re-install it seems to be working . . . so far!

7 is a good system. It's comparable to xp in terms of user-friendliness, and most of xp's weaknesses have been remedied. I haven't had any problems with it.

Macs can't do what I want my computer to do. Mine has Windows 7, and it's pretty good.

I guess I don't ask much of my Mac beyond working and not requiring me to know a damn thing about computers, and it does that.

They're not bad computers at all. My dad loves his Mac. I play some pretty demanding computer games, so Windows was a better bet in my case.

OK, I've never played a single computer game, so I know nothing about that.

Mac is the industry standard for graphic design. It's funny, all the games that Bat Ray plays on her PC were originally designed on Macs but can't be played on one. Go figure.
