This is really getting off the topic but anyways :hmm

Brad, yes Naomi was at the Pacific cup, but she didn't end up competing. I don't think that's a very good photo of her on that link. She is a really good freediver, she seems happy spending a lot of time in(and under) the water. Her dad calls her a fish. :t
In Spearing comps she compares her results to the men, and is not happy unless she gets a reasonable ranking overall. (She usually takes out the women's)

Back on the topic, I think in General men outperform women. But this isn't always the case. ie Tanya in No limits. There are some really great women freedivers.

Look at Mandy in the last Pacific cup, 8th deepest dive, she would have been pretty darn high overall. In Australia, Sacha would have to be one of the best freedivers, only a couple of men have done better in competition. She was by far better then any of the 5 top OZ Spearo's that competed in freediving wolrd cup in 98.

Cheers,
Wal

Reactions: loopy
same question, different approach...

What about technique? How about the differences in style that make the sport so beautiful? There must be subjective qualities that contribute to opinions about men excelling at Freediving.....or women being 'better' at it... Any ideas out there? I'd like to hear about that. I'm not belittling Competition scores or standings at all. I haven't attended a Competition (yet), so I'd like to hear from those who have observed many Freedivers in action. I'm sure there's something to be learned here.
Thanks.

Even better in the flesh guys! I got to meet her last night.

Naomi is a lovely girl, very friendly and easy going. A bit embarrased at being recognized! Unlike some comp divers I know she is ego free and humble about her achievements.

Hopefully I'll get to dive with her some time!:chatup

Diving, freediving, spearfishing... what ever, I don't think quality of diving is measured by minutes meters or anything like that.. I think both men and women can ENJOY diving equally well!
