Miami Spearin' Contest

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Hey man you are more than welcome to come over here & give the tourney handlers a hand with w.e. Weight in, rules, w.e it takes to run the thing correctly and safely. You can even use your boat to take people as long as they ship in if that's ok with you! All I know is that steel would prob appreciate all the help he can get.

I don't really like the whole key west open I hear that you can go pretty far distance wise & use SCUBA, that isn't fair to many spearos who just skindive when they hunt but, then again I am not 100% on the rules for that tournament.
they have a seperate category for sportfish, scuba wont help much there, plus special ,prize for freediver with biggest fish in any class,(last year was a 120 cm euro riffe) also if the timing is right , iwould love to help out weighing or whatever, for your tournament

Geez leave you boys alone for a minute...quite a bit of input....MUCH APPRECIATED:friday!!!!!!

Let me digest this stuff and will come back with some input and answers...what do you guys think about the Fish & points any fish left out basically what I tried to do is allot a point amt based on difficulty, population, and tactical strategum (eg BW vs Reef) I did leave out something whoever can chime in with that something and the points that something should be allotted gets the first prize...actually a couple of things:confused:...

_______ Pt's ____
_______ Pt's ____

Hiya JKW whats the charter fee...I may be up for a trip over and slay some fish...or maybe KIS and hit it on the Run&Gun

one MILLION DOLLARS should cover it. no fee. after the boat is up and running we will talk. i need someone to tech me BW stuff, so i will seek you out when time comes, dont worry.

OK gonna try to answer in parts
Will this be an individual tourny or will there be a team prize? or both? also is will there be a team max?

Its going to be an individual team effort... Spearos are paired...don't know if you pick your partner and dive with him or you pull straws from a hat...and your partner gets picked...what do you guys think?

It could also be sorta team but individual in other words 2 compadres pair up, shoot fish and submit their catch however they please, IOW if spearo Geronimo gets a 15# yellow and a 2# mut and his bud spearo Flaming Horse gets a 6# yellow and a 22# mut they can submit the 15# and 22# but it would be submitted as if it was caught by one of the spearo's either Geronimo or Flaming Horse. This is just another perspective gimme some feedback guys.

I see what ur saying but it's a waste of a day if someone catches their limit and can't continue.......also, say a team member snags 3 blacks.....and the other member sees another, but doesnt snag it - he's missing out on the fun
your partially right but look at it from this nook...This contest is to both challenge you and you against others, and if your paired up as a team then the importance of team dynamics plays in, as well as (probably most imp.) set an example to "the others" that frown on killing fish for a freakin contest. Realistically it would be quite challenging to get one species of each of those fish in a day or 2 (another issue that we should address 1 day 1.5 day or 2 days) even more so to get 3 ( as an individual not a team, which would still be difficult none the less)

Moving right along
This really all depends on how the tourney would be held. For example, if in teams then each member should put forth their two best fishes,. If individual then each person should be allowed to weigh in 3 of their best fishes. Of course no illegal fishes and stick to the Florida Spearfishing Fishing Regulations. Bag limits and everything else or disqualification.

Pretty good Arman...things be shaping up...the way I'm vibing it is each of the individual contests (lets call them the Mini Contests- subtle color huh) your allowed 3 fish or 2 ( I think one is too little) weez got a list of 21 fish (and counting) so lets say you bag 30 fish total and the whole bounty weighs 189.423467#'s and your total puntos are 180 and your bud Beast he got himself 189 #'s of fish but all his fish tallied 190 points you would win the Mini contest (most pounds of fish) and we would add those points towards the final shootoff...and it just so happens that Mahi (livin up to his name) nailed himself a huge 69# dorado and a total of 223 points so he would get a prize for biggest fish and his points recorded towards the final contest...you guys with me so far?

All keep in mind you can shoot w.e you want but are limited to a specific # for tourney fishes. Meaning you can enter the tourney and not necessarily go home empty handed? clear enough?
I'm open to this but IMO we should stick to the 3 fish limit just to keep it Kosher with the public, as I plan to get (or at least try) some of the MB City officials involved...we might ultimately donate some of the catch to some charitable org....slaughtering a whole bunch of fish never gets swallowed too easy...git mi drift...and as mentioned 3 fish of 21 makes 63 fish...dude thats a bloody mess of pescados

Prizes are the least of our worries we can surely get some local sponsers for the Mini Contest Prizes and I'll talk to Stephan to see what he can do on the DB end of things
Ima thinking we would have 2 or 3 winners
Most pounds of fish
Biggest Fish
Most points
and of course who ever gets all 3 is:king (finally got to use that smily)

the prizes won't be anything too extravagant, but definitely something to make the winner a happity spearo, and justify the entrance fee...

Which brings us to our next issue DINERO, BENJEEZ, FLOW, SKRILLA, GREENBACKS, PIMP, GUAP, MULA, FEE if we go with the 21 fish Shootoff (actually thinking upping it to 25) then we're looking at 21 contests I say we keep it kosher and steer towards something that ain't gonna whip us something like $20-$50 range...heres some arithmatic...
Lets say we do $20 (hint) we get 15 wannabe:king thats $300 Cheddars if we do 21 shootoffs thats $6300 ducketts...feel the power of math...go home with ya pockets full of Blings...thats what I'm talking 'bout....AND THE GRAND FINALINA...

hey steel why don't you just combine length and weight and save your self another category less worry less hassle.

ie: most pounds of fish = most points i think they are basically the same thing.

You should when time permits put together like a tourney invitation with rules and useful info of course when things clear up. Everything should be taken into consideration here so at the end there isn't oh but I didn't know?
use of scuba if it's a go or no
Florida Fishing Licence
GPS and routes <--- you just never know
Weight in time & area of coverage.

Also consider in keeping this kinda of small to see how things go the 1st time. Then build up from there...

also I didn't mean for people to go out there and slaughter everything after all bag limits and fl regulations still apply but if they feel like they are paying X amount of $$$ to fish then I would assume they would prob consider taking a couple of hogs or cudas. I mean its reasonable to some extent.

I think this is getting complicate with the point system.

Oye lbs = points right then 2 people = 4 fishes times x amount of points = Total or 2 people = 4 fishes but you only weigh in 3
fair for every 1 no spcial points if you get a grouper or w.e. How does that sound?

AHHHH the FINALE...

So you guys still with me? Again Im a just thinking outloud here...input is

so were at the Last Contest the Big Enchilada, we got a few options, heres my scooper

This contest is one fish per category and as always 3 fish in the cooler (so trigger happys beware) points are allotted in 2 ways for the final contest
per total pounds of fish, 1 point per pound
and pounds of fish are allotted that particular point/pound...
IOW if you shoots a 20# Black you gitty up 180 points and if you get a grand total of 200#'s of fish your scooping another 200 points, so you'd get 380 points plus whatever points you had accumulated throughout the Mini Contests lets say in all the Mini Contests you accumulated 1217 points so you add the 380 to that and you Grand Total for the Event is 1597 puntos this is the number to beat...we can have 3 place holders First 60% $ + first pick of prize, Second 20% $ + second pick of prize, Third Prize.

Whewww that was a long post gimme something back

Getting tricky on me with the editing buddyboyrofl

Pounds and points are 2 different animals the pounds of fish wins the Mini Contests, Biggest fish (poundwise) wins the Mini Contest, We can even do Most Points of fish wins in a Mini Contest... you win a prize so their 3 possible place and 3 prizes

Its the Final Contest were the accumulated points plays a significant role...and the points as I mentioned keep the Mini Contests Rolling...it also levels the playing field allowing- luck, strategy and consistency (more Mini Contests you enter the higher your accum points) to circumvent.

ACERO te estas complicando! con todos los puntos de mierda estos coño! voy a traerte un tiburon para que lo peces! I WIN!

Missed that part

That gets tricky' not sure I follow you brotha but I see it like this you dive with a partner, each one of you has the right to shoot as many fish as you'd LEGALLY like but you can only bring to the weigh in your 3 fish limit (set by contest rules)...so's the both of you would bring 6 hogs but each of you would be alotted 3 points each for the 3 hogs (1hog=1point) these points are PRIMARILY for the FINAL SHOOTOFF. If you shot 3 Hogs totalling 18#'s you have 18#'s toward the tally for the Mini Contest (and 18 points towards the Final Contest), if you shot another 170 #'s of other fish then we add all the pounds up and if you shot the most pounds you win that Mini Contest if of those 170#'s 3 were Blacks you'd get 18 points, if 3 were Muts you'd get 18 points, if 1 was a Cobia you'd get 7 points and if you shot 3 porgies and 3 Mojarras you'd get 48 points, plus the 3 points for the 3 hogs would put you at 94 points which would be used towards the final contest. Are you with me?...OK you noticed we don't have a 10 point fish, thats because the fish of the month (actually if we do 20+ contests it would be the fish of the week or the fish of the BiWeek) is the 10 point fish so if that particular week the "Fish of the Week" is The HogFish then the Hog would be 10 points and you'd get 30 points for your 3 hogs...bring it

IMO for first tourney yes.... you seem to be going all out on it.. i got the whole point thing and the fish of the week giving you an extra boost, but perhaps this should be done at a later time when who ever runs it has more experience. Get me? for now you should keep simple and learn from the first tourneys and what needs to be change when you have another. If by all means what you have in mind is prefereble amongst fellow spearos then let's do it this way.

Arman I see what you mean and its a sound point, but if we make it with accumulated points with a final contest based on them we need to figure a "standard" and repeat the process for each contest Here are the Cliff Notes.

A) We have a monitored boundary lets say (N-S) from Bear Cut or Goverment Cut North to Haulover and (E-W) from the the ocean to the Bay (including Intercoastal Waterway) if anyone is out of limits the are duct points or disqualified for this particular contest

B) We have a 1 day hunt say Saturday, or a 2 day Hunt say Sat/Sun (with final weigh in on Sun 3pm, for example)

C) We have a max 3 fish (or 2) per category that can be entered, unless limited by Reg's in which case Regs supercede...in fact in all cases Regs supercede Contest Rules. For example only 1 AJ , 2 Blacks according to FWC etc. as well as the size limits...NO Exeptions ...

D) We have an Entrance fee for the Mini Contests (say $20 -$25) and perhaps a different fee for the Final say $50

E) Spearo's are paired up, you don't need to partner up with the same person everytime and you can mix catch between partners but only one person can enter that catch- and point, pounds, prize- will be to that one person.
IOW if you get 3 Hogs (1#, 2#, 5#) and your partner gets 3 Hogs (1#, 2#, 8#) He can give you his 8# hog and you would give him your 1# Hog so you would then enter 3 Hogs (2#, 5#, 8#) and your partner (1#, 1#, 2#) If you win then you get the prize, what you and your partner decide to do with the prize is up to you

We have a set number of Mini Contests the Minis serve a few purposes
1) Represent Fish of the Month
2)Place/Award Winners for this particular contest
3) Accumulate points for the Finals
4) Distinguish Luck from Skill

Things to determine in the Minis is will we have 3 places
1- for most pounds of fish
2-biggest fish
3-most points
(should we award "bonus points" to the most pounds of fish and biggest fish...say 25 points for each?)

Here's an example of how Mini Contests would go down:

Spearo Rapido wins most pounds of fish (242)
Deep Penetration gets Biggest Fish (Cobia) and most points
Both guys win a prize (and maybe DP wins 2 prizes biggest fish & most points)
Points are registered to apply for the Final Shootoff (we can also give bonus points say 25 to the most pounds and biggest fish).

Howz it sound guys?

....... O my thats a whole lotta info right there. Need some time to decipher all this o_O

How can we monitor the boundaries?? Also I am having some difficulty understanding the # point system

Sounds good to me Steel..........two things....I think we should be able to choose our partners......I'm comfortable with one or two spearos I know, to watch my back that is......only one of which hands down will enter with me........and numero dos, I think pairs should be allowed a gun each.........but still one up, one down at a time......I know some tourneys require one gun per pair, but that would hinder a spearos chances of stoning a prize fish as far as comfort and habit are concerned - spearos get attached to their guns :inlove.......

Yeah the boundaries can be tough...would a good faith system work...not...we definitely could use some volunteers, howz tracking systemsrofl, really the best way would be to have an "On Board Person" monitoring...yep we needz some voluntarios...I could surely get a few people to aid in this, but don't know how many.

Point system is simple Mahi...just review it...this is what each fish is worth
Trigger 1
Hog 1

Blue Runner 1

^^^SO HAS ANYONE FIGURED OUT WHAT MISSING FROM THAT LIST?

Beast

for sure it will be partners they choose eachother...but although they could be "like" a team they enter their catch individually...so the one gun thing popular in Europe with limited numbers of fish, can't be applied here especially when shootable fish are present across the water column...IOW if you go down and you partner is on top and a nice Cero stops by whats your friend gonna do??? plus its been my experience if you pay to shoot, you, well you wanna shoot...1 gun or more per spearo...itsalgood
