Miami Spearin' Contest

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Red Grouper, hmmm no not that don't see much of them in Miami...but it could be added in though...actually its the humble Bug...langosta, the other was the SOBE scallop...stingrayrofl

Another point that has come up is if we do this as a "fish of the Month" we'd be about 2 years competing:duhso what I say we do is just pick a certain # of fish ( to be fish of the month) and then decide whether to compete BiWeekly, Monthly w.e. ...any suggestions?
 
what can i say boys i wish i was in florida ..Tone good effort there this looks very promissing..if you allow me to give my views (please feel free to discard them, i dont want to intrude in any way):
1 - maybe promote safety on this comp and keep it in pairs as a mandate
2 - make a target for the day (say 80 Lbs of mahi mahi) first team who gets in wins..then the next time change the species, that you way you get to be selectve and also learn different techniques for different fish..if nobody gets the target, the next day stakes double and so on..
anyway good luck, have fun and be safe out there

you could also plan it in a way that the target is challenging enough that you dont waste the day as somebody suggested
 
80lbs of Mahi!!! Thats quite a task haha! I see what Marwan is getting at but I don't know if it would be the best route for the comp :ko

Although the input I'm sure is welcome, only thing you need now is too pick up a plane ticket and come on down :friday

:naughty Hey man that was harsH!... to be honest I would not like to own a mr.carbon but I do admire their design and beauty :inlove. I like the new C4 gun "Erection" but, I can't imagine the price tag on that. I'm highly considering the new Mares Phantom Carbon :inlove I hope to hear good things about the gun in the fallowing months.

last time i was in miami was in 2002 as part of my honeymoon (south beach in spring break, biiiiiiig mistake for a newly married man)), being from egypt i guess entitled me to be always "randomly" picked for screening, held in immigrations etc.... not too excited to go through that again soon

armando, those mares guns look cool, good luck with that, c4's are very nice but like many people said, any gun will take fish, its just extra fancy, and has added properties that you might not even need in miami, bear inmind euro guns are generally made wit the euro/med spcies in mind, if i were you id stick with rob allens and rabitechs, they are the business, if you want to save up for a fancy gun ge a wong hybrid, more relevant to your waters...

sorry for sidetracking the discussion a bit. ill let you guys get back on topic...best of luck, happy hunting

110 pounds!??..... Im 6ft 185lbs :martial... most hott chicks weigh 110, as long as they are around 5ft tall rofl

Check out^^^^Mr TiroTeo...with the itchy finger....if its a "lets just do this" then we can all hook up and just do a mini warm-up compo, between us gentle for a small wager...kinda pot luck winner takes all....this other competition I'm not vibing "homegrown" so to speak, its gonna be more formal...flyers, shirts, sponsor prizes, $$$ the whole enchilada:king....its going to be part of DB so I'm hoping to get our community as well as Floridians involved thats the reason why I'm rolling with it on the slow'mo

I've been watching this thread, sounds like a great idea. IMO....keep it informal, so it stays fun. I think a good a way to enforce boundries would be to have everybody leave from the same place and have an early weigh in and a BBQ to follow??This would discourage anybody from running long distance especially if prizes are almost not worth the expense of gas??? What a about team divisions?? Best boat??..dale..lets do this thing:martial

Seems like we got a few trigger happy spearos aboard..."the Contest" I'm storming up is a bit bigger, but that shouldn't prevent us from Prelim...if you will so you rookies can see what you be up against...something simple lo-key...no frills type of compo
try to keep it close to the orinal one so as to iron out the creases that "The Contest" might have....

Points are awarded per pounds of fish, per fish, and per biggest fish...so you actually are winning by points...

Example you nail 2 muttons 1 was 12#'s & another 7# you earned 19 points (12+7) plus another 18 points (each mut is 9 points a piece) for a total of 37 points....If you got a total of 200#'s of fish you get 200 points plus whatever points each of the fish you speared are worth...if you shot the biggest fish thats worth...lets say a bonus 10 points, if you shot the most fish thats worth a bonus 10 points...Entrance fee is a skinny $25/spearo, dive with a bud, but weigh in solo, fish weighed gutted, at the end all the points tallyed up and First, Second, & Third get the Bing...some other details will be fourthcoming, but how does this sound as aTester Tease for the Big Enchilada give me your heresay and block off the second wkend of Mayo...we gonna shoot some pescaditos?

BTW we fish in pairs but weigh in alone? Why aside from the safety factor? Is the tourney INDIVIDUAL OR TEAMS!
man that there does not sound good because you are gonna be there shooting fish while your buddy just watches your keep in mind he also has to get points for fishes and submit his own catch? see where I am going now a more appealing suggestion would be for a team of 2 motivated spearos working for a common goal which would be to get a good bag size and not have to worry about who gets more than who when at the end their catch would be essential to their final score. :friday

You dive with a buddy, but you both are shooting fish...ideally you should do I up one down, but you can hunt however you want, both shooting fish at the same time. I just think if 2 guys pay $20-$25 they're gonna each like a chance at the Chabitos...so even though you are a "team" its more as a safety margin, do the right thing type of thing.....but if you guys want to do a team thing we can probably arrange that to...
I NEED INPUT ON THE AMOUNT $ ENTRANCE FEE, BEST DATES, AND ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS, AND UNFORESEEN STICKY POINTS....if you guys wanna do this PRELAM CONTEST...giddy up with the input so I can move on it
