MN/WI speargun for carp?

Look into Henderson's InstaDry gloves. I have 3mm and I am going to get some 5mm. The 3mm gloves were fine in 40-45 degree water at the outlet, and just a little bit to cold at the ice line (30 degrees). I'm betting the 5mm will be NICE all the way through to 30. 5 finger gloves with full comfortable movement. I have big hands and the largest they come in is XL. The fingers were a little short, but other than that they were fine. My suit is a little short in the arms too, so I had a small gap on one side, my watch kept the other side. I'm 6-4 (or 6-5) so.... They make an Insta Dry Boot too. It's basically a closed cell neoprene inside.
We sell the glove for $45. The boots are a hard sole boot for scuba. I'll guess $55, but I don't have a price sheet and we do not have any in stock.

As far as gun length is concerned, I woudn't go for anything longer than a 75 cm...I have a 90 cm & fight it 50% - 75% of the time. The vis just is not good enough around here.
If you go to Lake Michigan most of the time, it is a different story.
Also, at least (2) bands for carp seems to be best.

I kinda wish I had a 75cm gun, but bands...only need 1 good band. 18 or 19mm circular band will send your spear clean through a carp with a euro gun. The smaller diameter shafts like the 6.5 or 7mm do less damage to smaller fish too. The JBL's have such a big heavy shaft. Just my opinion. I like my 90cm Cayman, but when you have 6ft viz it would be nice to have a little smaller, or even a pnemo.

I'm not saying the JBL is a bad gun. The two/three bands are required for moving that fat spear. I like the thinner shafts, then I'm not totally destroying a crappie or bluegill if I come across one. If your talking just carp, sure.
Like I said, it's my opinion. I'll be getting a 75cm gun soon. I might get a smaller one. But it will be a single band euro style because I just like the style and feel. I am going back to the muzzle bungee, in low vis it's easier and the carp are not going far once hit, they just get tangled in the weeds any way.
I guess I need to get the sling carved and give that a go too.

I have not fired a pneumo yet. I almost bought one as my first gun but I went with the Cayman and I love it. Jon seemed pretty happy with his at Lake Geneva and it looked nice too.
My view is, research the gun and find opinions of users of it and decide what seems to be the best bang for the buck. That is what I do and I have not been disappointed yet.
Usually after you do all the reading you always go back to the same gun you've been wanting and justify it. Then most times it works out, because in your mind it's right. Even if it has some technical issues at first or a flaw or two, but it still seems to be ok. Of course there are exceptions to this....you'll be fine with whatever you decide.

thanks i think i'll try the spear gun i've read the reviews and it says it's one of the better ones for the price and if not it wasn't that expensive and i'll be able to tell you all if it was a good deal or a bad deal possible even let you guys try it if i can make it to one of your events.
one question though. how do i tell how much weight i need for a weight belt or any weight belt suggestions, not really sure what i'm looking for?

You'll want a rubber belt and hard lead weight. The weight will vary depending on what your wearing (5mm, 3mm, etc). I wear a lot of weight in 10' of water because the 5mm suit does not compress much at that depth. I'd have to look at my belt to see know how much I have on it.
You'll want to get a variety of weight, 5mm suit get about 20lbs or so in 2's 3's and maybe 4's. And your going to want to balance the weight (it should be symmetrical).

I'm not going to follow the links to LeisurePro :yack But yes. One recomendation on the lead. buy it at a local scuba store. Lead is expensive, the price of lead weights has gone up 3 times in the last year I think, but shipping on top of that....buy local imo. I have the OMER rubber belt with the Ocean Mimetic steel buckle, they work great.
I think I have about 14 or 16 lbs on my belt and still have trouble staying down in 10' of water. That is nuts to me, I use maybe 10 to scuba! The reason I suggest getting more than you might need is so you can mix and match different weights depending on what you wear and to have a variety of sizes to get it closer to what you need.
