Molchanov fiber fin maintenance

Hay guys

i just bought a Molchanov fin, i love it but dont want to be spending that much cash for as long as possible.
So i was wondering if anyone uses any types of silicone or oils to maintain there fins. i'll be exclusively in salt water.

Usually, food grade silicone spray is useful for maintaining rubber materials, but I don't know if that is the part the wears out with those fins. It seems most monofins die when the composite fin blade cracks. There is really nothing you can do maintenance wise about that. Just be careful how you handle and use the fin that you don't break it through some adverse 'event' (i.e - they usually die at the hands of the airlines or a noob who doesn't know how to use a monofin).

One more thing (and this is especially true for a blade with carbon fiber or kevlar in it), don't let the fin freeze. If water gets into the composite material and then freezes, it will delaminate and weaken the material. That's the nice thing about fiberglass, silica doesn't absorb water, whereas kevlar and carbon fibers do. Also, keep it out of the sun as much as possible as UV will damage many materials.
