Moving to ITALY next year!

Howdy folks!

I've been given a great opportunity to study in Italy next year. I'll be heading over around April. I'll have to be within around an hour's travel from Milano, but other than that, I can stay wherever I choose.

If someone has recommendations of nice places to live, please let me know! I was dreaming of having my own little flat on the coast ... ok, well I can dream on, because that will be too expensive, but I'd prefer to be in a town rather than city, and hopefully somewhere where there are fellow divers!

Any suggestions most welcome

mate, i would bin the freediving for a year and go play in the mountains! You've got the dolomites on the doorstep and the alps aren't far away.
Go and lose yourself in the dolomites for a year - they're just amazing.
You also have Lake Garda fairly close to hand if you 'have' to get an apnea fix

No doubt spaghetti will have some words of wisdom for you...

"Bin"?!!! Well, I don't think I could if I wanted, more than three days without water and I tend to go a bit 'strange'. I hate to think what would happen after a whole YEAR! Nonetheless a friend just got back and was rubbing my nose in his pics of the dolomites, spectacular! Thanks!

Might also be good to know which cities have active clubs with people training regularly?

Hi Mystiach,
i live in a really nice area between Como and Varese, only 50km from Milan and 15km from my freediving club

we often train in Lake Maggiore and it only takes 2 to 3 hours to get to the sea
you can also find a LOT of freedivers in the Milan area as well

wherever you decide to settle, feel free to drop an email and i'll make you find a solution for your training

Sorry for the late reply but hey, I live 1 hour train from Milano and just 3 minutes walk from spearable fish....

It's not my hometown, but there's where I'm living and I like it.

Be warned. Living in Italy for a year may leave you too fat to fit in your wetsuit! It sure would me . . .

Heh heh... I think the amount of money I have spent on my wetsuits is incentive enough to ensure I fit into them for quite some time

Well, the time is getting closer, I'll arrive mid-may so I really have to make a decision soon!

Desenzano del garda looks really beautiful... and the pool there looks great too! Would I be able to find buddies to train with frequently? And, most importantly, is there a great big fresh food market nearby to get to once a week or so?

Jeez, are you really moving over to live here? Give me a shout as you're landing.

Training: you may join the local dive club (absolutely unexpensive) and that will do the trick.
Food supply: there are 13 supermarkets and hundreds of shops at every corner to keep you supplied with more food than you can eat.
