I have been reading a separate thread about apnea and intellectual enhancement and it got me to thinking.

I actually have a Masters Degree in Piano Performance, though I am now in a completely unrelated field as an airline pilot. I just started freedive training very recently, and I've found that if I go to the bottom of the pool after about 2 minutes of a static hold and begin to s-l-o-w-l-y play through a Mozart sonata on the bottom, my mind ventures away from the distractions of needing to breathe.

I don't think this is anything spectacular, but it WOULD be neat if it improved my concentration when I practice and perform.

You've already solved the biggest problem I have... trying to keep my mind off of not breathing. :D

I'm an avid cello player myself, maybe I should go through a few allegro pieces next time I jump in the pool.... I think it's definitely worth a shot! :)

UW flute?

For me it`s keith jarrett (köln concert part 1a). He`s a great help although i actually cannot play piano at all.

Tell me when you manage s-l-o-w-l-y playing through a whole sonata on a single breath...:duh :D :D :D

The thing that I use to not keep track of the time during the statics is to doing mathematic exercises, for example:

1x1=1, 1x2=2, 1x3=3... and so on with all the numbers.

:D

I'll definitely let ya know when I can get through the whole sonata s-l-o-w-l-y.

I find that it works VERY well. If fact, my eyes are closed most of the time, and I've always dreamed since I was a child that I could breathe under water. I usually have to "snap" myself out of it, so to speak, so I won't fall asleep! :duh

Fuzz, I've played some Brahms and Beethoven trios before. Perhaps we can dive someday and work through some new music! :)
