Murat exhale video interviews

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 90 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Intriguing video. Is this as new and ground-breaking, as it appears? It's always interesting to hear when somebody has noticed something new, especially when it goes against current dogma and appears to defy reason (until you consider the animal precedence & body reactions mentioned).

For spearing I don't take large breaths or try to pack. I just take a deep-ish relaxed breath - it just makes the whole process calmer & more relaxed. Perhaps Murat is taking this to a whole new level. The animal-world precedence is an interesting aspect of this.

I like the idea of 'work response' and think it has some excellent safety ramifications. As I understand Seb's description, work response would be change in metablic rate (typically measured by heart rate) AFTER dive response has been established, and I think it could explain why certain dives might trigger BO or samba in some divers but not others who have similar levels of training and lung capacity, etc, and why some divers excel at DYN but have great difficulty with depth and vice versa. A diver may exhibit different levels of 'work response' depending on lung state--full lung vs FRC vs exhale, and just as dive response can be highly individual, work response seems to be just as variable among divers.

Ascent tachycardia as mentioned in other posts may be just another way of describing work response.

Mr. X,

Seb pioneered the concept, although surely others have had the general idea, and posted a bunch of stuff on DB in about 2004 or 5. Its pretty counter intuitive and, unless you understand the physiology, looks pretty weird. Seb got hammered by people who should have known better and/or should have listened carefully to what he was saying. It works mighty well for the right situations and the right diver. But, as ninja says, individual response is highly individual. I think exhale diving amplifies the differences.

I've been diving exhale(about 60%) for several years now. For what I do, its a vastly better way to dive.

Connor

I started exploring this in 1999 and switched over in 2000-2001

I first made mention of this in `apnea groups´at about the same time. I don't know if its still a functioning forum or whether the posts are still available. I'd be interested in having a look though.

I have a question. I saw the video and read all the replies between you guys regarding DCI.
How can you assure that is safer than doing it in full lungs, if you went to 150 mts , where other freedivers arrived without suffering DCI?
